    Still a super-warm 22° with us

I was round at Aldi as they were getting perennials in today. Such poor plant care, pots were dried-out and the plants were wilting; two white salvias are now in buckets of water to perk them up.

Chilly and windy here today. Very windy yesterday

Very nice and warm in the Westcountry today. Strictly t shirt and shorts.:D

Went up to Bristol to pick up my eBay mower, then on to the Mendips, where we loaded up a scaffolding tower and 3 obelisks for climbing plants. I'm not convinced the latter will stay upright here, but I have been overruled! :p

Yesterday it was very blustery down here. The temporary sheeting we'd put over the window holes in my man-cave room blew out, so I had to spend the afternoon covering them with plywood instead. :(

Had to remove some plants from the garden this evening...one of the two lupins got lupin anthracnose so every stem was collapsing and there was no chance of flowers.

Also an astilbe I'd been sold as the white-plumed 'Ellie' was showing an awful pink, so I ripped that out and replaced with the white salvias from Aldi. Right in one corner of the garden I have a pinkish Japanese anemone so I'll put the astilbe beside that - I really, really don't like pink amongst white and purple!

Also am contemplating removing the laurel in the S/W facing corner of the garden. It was the only plant in the garden when I bought the house, but now the rest is done I think it can go in favour of something less dull.

Am trying to decide what small tree is hardy in a Scottish winter, is OK facing S/W on clay soil and gives a lot of interest. Am tempted by Prunus × subhirtella 'Autumnalis' (autumn cherry) or Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' (weeping pear)

Very hot again. Didn't feel like doing much but shifted a large standard rose = probably killed it in the process. It was hiding my blue hydranga.

Ole cat vanished & found him btw some chicken wire & wenlock down at the hen houses. I don't know.

Four might be even better! ;) Or are others having loving homes to go to? Lets face it Alfie, you are like us, you really wouldn't want any kitties to have to make that final vet trip. I predict two or three. :rotfl:

Do be careful when you dispose of the laurel! We took up a whole hedge of it in front garden, stuffed it in car and OH took to tip... It was a very hot day, so he had roof of car open and all windows. Thank God! Apparently laurel gives off Cyanide gas, sufficient to kill in an enclosed space. I knew it was poisonous, but didn't know it was that bad! (roll eyes).

We are going to have a home day today and I think I will try to get a few things done in the garden to tidy it up a bit :)
