The swallows in the barn have raised four youngsters this year and they're all flying well.
The house martins have continued to feed their young throughout the building works, even though we have been working literally a few feet from their nest. They may have flown too now.
I was a bit concerned about the martins, but I guessed correctly that they had too much invested in this site to abandon it. The same nest has been used for many years.0 -
morning all,
a bit cooler this morning, with a gentle breeze..
Davesnave did you get my pm?
the first lot of pigs we took to slaughter were 63kgs and 65kgs which is ideal...
the last lot we took we had run on to long and they were over 100kgs dead weight each, so hence the huge 'Christmas size' joints..
we find our best seller was the bacon, it flew out, with people coming back to buy a few packs at a time, our next best seller was the burgers that sold out, and the sausages..
We don't advertise as such, and don't push it,
we charge £6 per kg and sausages, bacon etc is sold per pack..
When we live at the ranch, and there is someone there more or less 24/7 then we can look at taking the meat sales further, and maybe chicken and goose eggs, plant sales etc
right better go to work lol
EDIT... LIR what I might do after your suggestion is put some planters of strawberries by the kissing gates. so they can 'sneakily' eat the strawberries lol I think strawberries will be cheaper and I can just replace with runners after they have fruited out so to speakWork to live= not live to work0 -
CTC could you use edible hedging along the path? Even if you use something more substantial behind you could have currant bushes in front. Ours are huge and grew quickly from a couple of poundland plants so inexpensive too. Plus you could pot them on easily to sell
Once you have the privacy side sorted you really want to tempt people to walk down the lane so you can sell produce to them!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I'd position edibles at either end, both so they don't have people lingering by the house, and so that people are peckish for stuff to buy by the time at the gate!0 -
Otoh, CTC, hazel, chestnuts, stuff you can coppice might be worth thinking about in hedges too.0

Thank you all for your kind words yesterday I am feeling a bit better today
I think FK was right and I am exploring ways of making my life more the way I want it where I am. My hubby pointed out that if I moved I would still be facing the same life just in a different location
I though t you might like a Rumlet update. He is now a delightfully plump cuddly baby and over the last week has learned how to roll which he is doing over and over again all through the day :rotfl: On our trip away he had his first taste of solids so the fun (and mess) of weaning has begunTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I did, and I think it's a good idea to explore, but I forgot to say so!:o:o:o0 -
Ooooooh I was thinking of putting in an elderberry hedge in the bit of the side garden that is not really used for anything. Just wondered if they were easy to grow from cuttings or if I would have to buy new plants?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I've never tried to grow them. But we have them growing out of gutters, cracks in places, real weeds. Seeds certainly. They grow quickly.0
