Just had a surreal hour. Met a lady by the rubbish sacks, who informed me she is 'cat sitting' down at the barns.
She said she wasn't techie and could I help, please, because the TV was 'on the computer' and there isn't much to do here!
Oh dear, it was a bloomin' Apple Mac, which I've no experience of whatsoever, so even switching it on was quite a feat. Then it couldn't find its mouse, until I realised that tiny thing underneath was a switch....
Meanwhile, different cats walked around over the keyboard, including a very wet one that seemed to take a liking to me.
Anyway, after what seemed an age and many false starts, we finally achieved an episode of Casualty or Holby City ....whatever...but the lady then became somewhat distressed and decided she couldn't possibly watch anything, as she'd not know how to turn it all off again!
It turned out that she has no computer at home, so it was really asking a bit much to expect her to pilot that bit of kit.
Last I saw of her, she was off for a walk, in the rain! :rotfl:
Couldn't it be left on? If people are going to leave cat sitters with only computers they might have to accept so e electricity is wasted.
Poor woman. Bored, lonely. How sad.0 -
FK...:rotfl::rotfl: it wont have dated much as its early 20th century gardens...
. Not the garden style, the book :rotfl: I had a peek on amazon, it is very dated, looks like hard work to read compared to more modern books, reminds me of his lectures
Lovely idea planting in the barrows, easy to get them home in tip top condition too! I wish I'd had time to do my own wedding flowers but it was not to be.
It's all apples in this house too, ok once you get used to it but quite a stretch if you've never used any computer!
Looks like Us night owls are out again, I come to life about now but it makes it so hard to get up in the morning.
I've been going through programmes I recorded, just seen a series about an amazing vet who does a lot of metal work and bionic stuff, amazing and very emotional stuff. They even had a pig there!
Last night I watched the tiger cubs born in an Australian zoo and hand reared by the head keeper, another very emotional story, but heart warming.
I'm all cried out really, just time for I a bit of Hampton court I recorded before bed0 -
Nice picture of a thrush, CTC. We don't see many of those here; just the odd one now and again. You'm lucky.
And yes, those are DW's hands, always well protected with gardening gloves.
Gertrude Jekyll probably wore gloves too, but it's her boots that are famous. Not many women have had their boots painted for posterity......:undecided
Have you told Dw we like her paws? I'm envious!
Alfie , I love the barrows, but you knew I would!
Our borage looks good, we have few poppies now, and....one welsh poppie. A few Californian ones. The odd marigold. But mainly borage. There is a company in devizes that specialise in wild flower meadows. Probably too pricey for us though, so I 'm not even going to ask them. Maybe when ceilings are sorted, and we have floors or something. Until then the lidle mixes will have to suffice I think.

what's it like IHS
Very good, and yes it was published in 1992. I learnt there's a Jekyl garden not too far from me...it's on the privately owned island of Little Cumrae...so will be looking at what plants she selected for Scotland. Although my garden could fit into that wee bit surrounded by the hedge...
NB the whole Island was sold for about the same price as a 2-bed posh London flat, £2M0 -
In one way I would love to live on my own island, but then there would be no chip shops lol..
nice blue sky at mo, but does feel a bit fresh..
we are running with one of my mad ideas on how to make some sort of money from the ranch. don't want to go into detail here, but fingers crossed its potential is looking promising..its not going to be a big money earner, but it will be something.... need to get a polytunnel... and really get to grip with organising where things will be going in the garden..
ALFIE I love those barrows.... they look really pretty.. is your friend going to carry on planting them up every year??Work to live= not live to work0 -

That was the sticking point. People of a certain age don't like to 'leave things on.'She could have had it on the same BBC page all night, and I'd have gone down to turn it off this morning, but do you think she'd have slept?
I think she needs sleep more than Holby City! :rotfl:
I have told DW about the kind comments re her hands.
She does have nice hands. The rest of her is pretty good too!0 -

I liked the barrow too.
This wouldn't involve a certain species of flowering plant that you've been road-testing, would it?0 -
:rotfl::rotfl: the barrows [10 of em] where planted with boxes of posh wild flower seed 8 weeks ago... £30 a box  used 3 boxes but worth it as a really healthy show now. they will be put around the marque outside
oh and LIR.... happens to be a box left over
oops , wiltshire beckons me finks
i negotiated 11 big full hanging baskets [for the stable block as guests drive past to park] @ £99 and yes i got the £1 change
:rotfl: as i think i may have said
the garden is the feature for the reception. after the first wave of sit down meal it goes over to a huge buffet for 2nd wave and CTC's welsh blankets are to be used for picnic style eating
firework display later and a field of tents for the late revellers to sleep in ... very glastonbury
