Well, we have done the planning 3 times now and that was expensive enough! :rotfl:
My worry is getting the right builder, and the other trades. The guy who's doing the garage for us now will be fine for that job, but I think he will have his limitations.
So, there will come a time to call in the bigger guys. I was really disappointed that one I spoke to, who has a good reputation, just didn't follow through. Another guy didn't even bother to get back to us.
I still have high hopes for another builder we found through recommendation, but he's on a £1m+ job at present, so he won't be free to do our larger roof job this summer.
Like you, we plan to do most of the painting ourselves to keep costs down. Sounds as if you are on the home straight now. :beer:0 -
how do you attach guttering to a greenhouse??
doing one or two more jobs, and then going to a bike rally to get drunk in a field... need a blow out lol...Work to live= not live to work0 -

I am just in from the garden (relaxing) and it was wonderful, I love looking about and seeing how many changes there are each day.
We had a day out at a local country estate and gardens and it was divineWhen I win the lottery I will have a garden like that with a gorgeous fallen tree trunk that I can sit on and read
Dave, when do the kittens come home? I currently have a very snuggly cat on me as we got her some of the mixed meats from the supermarket today :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Just recovering from yesterday, when we went up to Brum to see my DD1's new (old!) house.
Shades of deja vu, as I remember only too well parental reactions to the places we bought! :rotfl:
It will be very nice..... eventually, but right now there's no functional kitchen or bathroom and plaster is off the walls/ceilings in several places in readiness for the rewire and re-plumb. On the plus side, it has newish heating, roof and windows. There's also what I estimate to be a 120' garden, complete with 40' trees and an under-storey like the worst parts of this place 5 years ago, so no shortage of outdoor activities.
I think they got a bargain, if they are realistic & patient enough to see it all through. When I asked about their allotment, they said, "Oh, we're keeping that!"
Yeah, right, like DW and I kept our two allotments when we bought the previous house with a big garden! :rotfl:
EDIT: Can't answer computer questions and greenhouse guttering depends on what it's made of. Kittens get here in 2 weeks.....Oh dear!:eek:0 -
guttering is normal plastic stuff...
just come back from the rally down the gower.... great night....needed it...
so just having a cuppa, and then going up the ranch...
now that we are home, there is a huge dark cloud outside.... looks as though its wants to piddle down, so will see if it passes over without doing that lolWork to live= not live to work0 -

Silly me, I meant what is the greenhouse made of?
However, I suppose it will be aluminium. Different manufacturers have various profiles and attaching to any of them without a dedicated kit is probably hard.
I found this thread, though you may have found it already:

Garden is now coming on in leaps and bounds. Finished netting the soft-fruit yesterday as the raspberries have been pollinated by loads of bumble-bees.
Have realised that white flowers are essential under grey Glasgow skies, so am sowing the seeds for white perennials given away in this months 'Garden Answers'
However, bit of a fiasco in the conservatory; the two agaves have gone all shrivelled and floppy. I can only assume they were were left to cook one day when the sun was out - not sure what to do now other than give them a good drink...0 -

Hi all
Need some advice, I've decided to revamp the veg patch. Currently I have 3 very long beds that I can't manage. I've decided to make 4 smaller raised beds with paving slabs in between. I want them quite high, probably the size of 3 sleepers. I have a real problem with horse tail and was wondering if I lined them with the weed membrane would it help to keep it at bay. I also have those slugs that seem to live in the soil so any thoughts on that one.
