Good luck with the building, Dave. Hope it goes smoothly.

My mum's here and we're hoping for a big push on the painting while she is, as she'll help with the kids

Sounds like you're going to be busy, Dave :D Actually, that should be extra busy as you always seem to be doing stuff.

Ah, but I don't have a proper job any more. This is a doddle compared with the previous one. ;)

How did that song from 'Easy Rider' go?

"Well, I cut a lotta grass..." Something like that. Maybe it wasn't 'cut.' cool-smiley-019.gif Anyway, that was half my day today.

After, I decided to see if the stream bed beyond the 'garden' bit was brush-cuttable. That's the main part, which is in the neighbours field, but our responsibility. I forgot the hole in my left welly :(, but otherwise it was fine. What was once impossible, took only 20 minutes. It was none too soon though, as neighbour's brambles and other weeds were already making their way across...

While I was over there, I noticed one of the neighbour's trees didn't look well. Then It dawned on me, it's ash die-back!

I looked around and there were two more trees affected, but none on our side yet. We have only small ashes along the road, but up by Mr Dog there's quite a substantial specimen. It still looks OK, though it's closest to these sick ones. I know that probably doesn't matter as the disease can travel miles, but I'm hopeful one like that which produces seed might prove immune. :)

Just been outside watching the International Space Station go over. A good end to the day of our 43rd wedding anniversary!  Where did those 43 years disappear to? ;):o

I love seeing that light going overhead, and knowing there are people inside a spacecraft up there, researching, and looking down on Earth. Wonderful.

Rozee - your Mum any good at lifting breeze blocks, sheets of plaster board? - send her over here & I'll get her utilized!

Hope all dreamers are still starry eyed & silly! ...................... & not like I...all bitter & twisted.................but still chasing the dream.............

Belated Happy Anniversary, Maggie :D It's a mere 20 years for us this year.

I absolutely LOVE watching the ISS go over, I haven't seen it this year but we had some fantastic views last year :j

Dave, I whinged & moaned about cutting a small patch of lawn yesterday, you put me to shame!! :o

Hope your Ash doesn't succumb to die-back, would you have to notify someone if it did??

    Choille, I'm still [STRIKE]starry eyed & silly[/STRIKE] daydreaming ;)

Just been trying adding water retaining granules in the potting compost.

It's powerful stuff, after I put the pots into a bowl of water they all swelled up and the compost rose like a baked muffin over the edge of the pots. Cuttings included! Doh!

It's Mrs Dave who's the marvel. She does the drawings, and boy has she done some for this place!

I just wasn't happy with any of the earlier proposals. I kept coming back to the notion that we should be able to fix things within the original footprint. Also, there was too much waste, with perfectly good windows/walls being scrapped and so on. Then there were the eco-rainbows we wanted to chase....

But it all boils down to sensible cost. I've years of Rightmove records covering properties like this, so it's easy to see where our ceiling price is. ;)

I'll eventually have a posh finished design to share with you. It won't be that remarkable though! :rotfl:

I will notify about the ash die-back if it hits us, but I can't examine the trees I've seen, as they're on another's land, so ID isn't 100% certain...... I'll mention it if I can see the lady concerned. Her husband's a bit prickly when it comes to discussing anything like that!

I don't think you are like that at all!

Progression towards a goal like yours is rarely straight, but while you've had more than a fair share of set-backs, it's clear that you are still up for the challenge. :A
