Dave you and your lovely wife are a formidable team :D It will be amazing to see your hard work and thoughts come to fruition!

I am loving the transformation in my back garden :) My sister didn't really notice the difference however to me with the new planting and the effort I have made it feels like somewhere I can relax and enjoy. The front and the side however :rotfl:

No, I didn't know, but I do now. :D Thanks for the tip. :A

Just recovering from moving our 5' chest freezer from the garage. It was last defrosted in 2009! :o:o Actually, it wasn't iced up much inside, but we found a few food items we'd given up for lost! :rotfl:

Just been trying adding water retaining granules in the potting compost.

It's powerful stuff, after I put the pots into a bowl of water they all swelled up and the compost rose like a baked muffin over the edge of the pots. Cuttings included! Doh!

    SNAP !! :rotfl::rotfl:

I thought i was the only one that didnt read the ratio's ;) :rotfl::rotfl:

    Evenin All!

Sorry for the long absence, again been reading but not had the energy to write! Everyone's been really busy, I loved the photos and links.

A lot has been happening, it's exhausting keeping up with the work going on round here. It will stop soon as money has all but run out :(
Then I need to get on earning it back again, but the developments here are all towards that goal.

The fencing has resumed in the fields after a year of no progress, it's almost finished actually, just in time as certain naughty animals had been escaping and most can now free range again!

We had a flurry of unexpected late lambs here, we had 8 lambs out of 12 ewes, it would have been 10 had we not lost a couple of tiny ones. Most of the mothers were last years lambs and the fathers were too so not planned or predicted in any way, but I'm really pleased with them all. The first lamb born has two mums, one ewe adopted her when hers was stillborn, so that lamb is enormous. The last lamb is just a fortnight old but doing well.

The piglets are huge now too, but they can still duck under gates so they can get to the sheep and goats and they mix freely. I'm not sure they know 100% that they are pigs even though they live with all the big pigs!

I got really inspired with Chelsea being on telly and seeing everyone's plants and gardens on here so I've been going b@lls out in the garden department ever since. I sowed pretty much every packet of seeds I could find, using my giant propagator to speed things up whether the seeds needed heat or not ;)

I now have lots of small plants coming on in this lovely warmth but nowhere really to plant them out

so I impulsively made some new raised beds and arranged for 15 tonnes of topsoil to be delivered last week :eek:

started moving it by barrow but it nearly finished us off :eek::eek:

so I have borrowed a neighbour's mini digger and will attack it in the next day or two. I also have a large mound of composty chipped bark stuff to shift into aforementioned raised beds so the digger will save a lot of back breaking shovelling :T

I'll try and get some photos on here so you can see what I mean.

Alfie...what kind of paint do you use/prefer? have you tried Annie Sloan paint? I recently discovered a shop nearby stocks it and I've been going mad with it, I decided to paint all the furniture and wood work in the living room, moving outdoors with it next!

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine :)

i am focused to work in the garden this saturday :o i MUST...

as some building works finish, new ones are starting with all you peeps :D interesting to hear all, like they become "our" babies.. [the builds i mean :rotfl: ] i used to be constructing things at old house but this one is complete which is lovely but old habits die hard :o
so im going to explode in the garden...;)
i have a summer house at end of garden that just begs to have a wacky verandah built on and elaborate paths etc... once i get started i will get stuck in.

i was told that midgies/biters hate quineen... so folks you have permission to down a gin and tonic whenever you are relaxing in your gardens... or working/building/mowering...;).

Once rhubarb is established it will grow in shade I think it will grow anywhere, but I think Dave's your man in that one. I love rhubarb - goodness it's dear in the shops - used to be considered very working class, but I hear it's quite trendy - I believe it's a vegtable?

Today was breezy so the midgies weren't about so I moved the sheep & lambs onto the lower apportionment.

Guy is coming to see about ole rusty van on saturday so it was all afternoon emptying that little pig 'Ole - been used as a throw-it-in the-van dump for years, hay shed & general dustbin. OH kept saying, I'll get it done an hour before he comes, but I couldn't leave it at that. Been wheelbarrowing rubbish about all bleeding day. Did manage to get rid of loads of complete mouse eaten rubbish though so that was slightly......cleansing.....if that's the right word.

Found a rather nice ebony & brass bubble - spirit level so that may be ebayed & also half a hubble bubble pipe..............
