A colourful lettuce mix would be as good as anything for filling the gaps. After all, they come in at least 2 shades of green, speckled and red, with several different leaf shapes.

This is one of the mixes ones I grow:

 I can't believe that I never even thought of growing food! I have been so focussed on flowers and perennials :o

I have some beetroot, chard, lettuce and kale that would fill the gaps perfectly! Thank you for helping me to see the wood :rotfl:

what flipping weather.. thunder, lightening, super heavy rain....

went to small auction today.. ended up buying a trio of exchequer leghorns... very pretty...

also bought some planters, bits of wood, some wire, some old fashioned 'style' door latches... and considering I didn't really want to go, as the last time we went it was crap..lol...

IHS - very neat garden. Lovely colours. I do love iris's.

Great idea with the lettuce. They are pretty especially the lollo rossa [sp?]

The heavens have opened here & it's very humid & heavy.

Earlier on watched a crow chasing a buzzard & the buzzard was tumbling - most spectacular thing. Don't know if it'd just been at its young or what was happening there.

CTC - sounds like a great auction. I daren't go to any as I've filled the house build up as it is!

    evening all...

well we had rain and thunder early this morning.. over by 9.30, sun out by 10am and a fabulous day thereon..
did some errands this morning, then took mum to see the red arrow display at the old airfield. VERY POPULAR ! que across the forest for about 3 miles... took us 1 hr to get 5 miles !! but soooo worth it. clear blue skies, IOW backdrop and everyone had fun. had old planes doing flypasts plus old war vehicles/planes on display.
got home to watch BGT final and painted this while watching..

    Lovely Alfie. How clever.

I'm off to bed. The caravan is filled with midgies & I'm eaten alive.

    morning all,

weather sunny but windy here.. so will see what we can do outsie later..

Choille... this little auction has been going for years one form or another...the auctioneer used to hold it at his farm, but when he sold up, it has been held in various places...but it looks as though it will be held at this place for a while, even though its only a small auction. it was at its limit yesterday space wise... plus you really do need to harden up and not be a softie when it comes to the animals... nearly came home with 2 very tiny kittens...

the leghorns I bought were lovely condition and youngsters, so there is my white eggs sorted, found a good bloke to buy legbars from, so there is my blue eggs sorted, just need to find some really dark brown egg layers... so need to find some good marans maybe.. but all in due coarse, in no rush..

think I will be doing another stink with the strimmer later... these bloody weeds/grass is bonkers lol
