Saturday's yellow warning for rain is bad news. I've got loads of alliums etc. which will be hammered if the rain really is that bad. It's certainly getting humid this evening - the warm day triggered the clematis buds to open.
On the downside, am pretty sure there's vine weevil damage to some plants.0 -
Yep, our garden stands to be decimated,
Roses, alliums, peonies, delphiniums. Poppies, lots of fine wavy things
But it seemed most of all like the fungal things are getting the year of their dreams. Mild but not too hot, and regularly watered. I don my thing any thing is untouched by a touch of spot or rusting of some sort.
And I cannot get any beggar to cut my hay again. I'm fed up of this frankly.0 -
Well for today at least my back garden (most of it) looks absolutely amazing :j:j:j:j
I could burst with pridethe grass is cut, borders and tubs filled with plants and weed free and I finally used the pressure washer so everything is fresh, clean and shiny :j:j:j
OK their is painting to be done however :j:j:j
Now all I need is some sunshine so that I can sit and enjoy it instead of slogging my guts out. However I get the sinking sensation that after the rain forecast I will be back to square one :rotfl::rotfl:
Did I mention I am delighted :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Sorry LIRTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Rummer - you can come & do mine if you like - mine is a disaster zone, but I think we may have got a taker on our rusty ole van so that will be good to get rid of it, but where to store the hay? The vanhas been used as a shed for years - it's quite disgusting & a shame.
Very humid here & I've bed linen ironing mammoth nearly finished - thank fully. I always leave it till the last minute - just a quick cuppa & then back out to finish off.0 -
:eek:Woken by torrential rain and thunderstorm. That's the watering done!
I am going to fail on the tomato record front. Only 2 days to go and the super-earlies are still very green-looking.On the positive side, the F2 versions of Floridity, not costing 32p a seed, look very like their pure bred cousins. It's what they taste like that really matters though.
Talking about putting things off, yesterday, I finished filling-in a hole I made way back in 2011 when we were inspecting the foundations! :rotfl:
I also put a bid on a wheeled brushcutter. I've always fancied one, but they're pricey. Just have to hope folks around here are tighter than me......;)
Good progress on the garden, then, Rummer.:) Ours mostly survived yesterday's winds, but there were a few trees down along by the main road.0 -
That looks a scary job, CTC. I hope you didn't get the sort of winds we had here while doing it.
'Every little helps'.........:)0 -
Rain has now started with me, no idea if it's going to get torrential. Took some pictures of the garden in case the plants get knocked over...
Going clockwise, main plants are photinia, dogwoods in the corner, blue Polemonium flowers just going over, purple flowers of clematis on frame, alliums, dutch iris, cotinus 'smoke bush' in centre, variegated leaves of cannas, strap leaves of Crocosmia, dahlias.
EDIT Well heavy rain but it's been very calm so plants have only been drenched, not whipped about.0 -
IHS Your garden is looking great
The weather is wet here too and the garden is looking refreshed although I am sure my tomorrow the weeds will have sprung back with a vengeance :rotfl:
I was looking at my borders and I could do with some advice (again :rotfl:). The plants I could afford are quite small at the moment although they will grow much larger to fill the spaces however that leaves quite a bit of spare soil which is making a paradise for weeds. What should I do? Plant there and thin in the future or just battle the weeds in the interim?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
What should I do?
I've put in bedding cineraria to hide the bare soil while perennials and shrubs are filling out. Bought quite cheaply as plugs back in March, larger plants would be costlier now. Snapdragons also fill the beds until the frosts or you could go 'kitchen garden' and sow lettuce etc.0
