Dave if you wish to email us about architectural stuff then do back mail me.
OH has 45 years experience but with a practical bent.
Just had thunder - it's terribly close - Bought an acer for £2 out of Morrisons - It;s not too titchy & a Passion Flower for a £1 it;s ridiculously cheap.
One of my lambs has a badger face - grey & black it must be a throw back to my/it's Shetland ansestory - it is marvellous.......but I did ring it {castrate} a whole back before it looked so wonderful....oh,well.................0 -
50 !! is that your signal strength !! thats mega
i have no option here as NO other provider can provide
we are not doing a relay system [if we do it] its individual, just cheaper the more in the area have it [engineers ]
this is encrypted [?] so no one can hijack the signal.
I think I should have said 0.5, not 50.:o
I know the village is 1.8 of whatever we're comparing, so I'm almost 4 times slower. But there's telephone wires in two lofts going every which way under the insulation, so I expect previous owners screwed that up too......:( Will investigate as we clear lofts.
Thanks for the offer, choille. :A
I think if we have a problem, it will emerge as we build or interact with Building Control, so that's when your DH's technical and practical abilities might be very useful..... I won't hesitate!0 -

probably "teaching granny to suck eggs";) BUT the engineer told me that the best/correct place for the modem is directly at point of entry into house from external wire telephone socket. AND to use filter boxes [the little white boxes that splits for phone/internet but just use phone one ] on any other phones in the house as they cause interference on a weak line. also to use a direct lead rather than wireless if possible in any filter boxes where needed. worked here anyway. couldnt get sod all without it !!:rotfl:
the sun is glorious here today [so far] clear blue skies and hot !:D0 -

Have the filters on, but not sure if I've found all the wires!
I use a direct cable to the modem in my current office, which is a long way from the source at the end of one wire.
I could go wireless to my neighbour, who is closer and totally unencrypted, but I don't feel happy doing that. I think the kids do when they're here though! :rotfl:0 -
Ours comes in at the 'wrong' end, (though it will be the right end later!) with four thick walls between it and me here, so wireless is poo.

thats whats happened here.. where it was 2 houses, now one . phone entry is in the porch off the utility room, off the kitchen , off the dining room, down the hall into the lounge !! so a horrible long green cable decorates the floor when needed.:rotfl:
and that gives me .680 -
Thanks all for the bathroom ideas, I'd love a bit of colour in there as it's so... well... grey!! Who on earth thought it was a good idea to have a grey suite AND grey tiles?!
choille, I've been talking about passion flowers on another thread, absolutely gorgeous flowers. I saw them in Morrison's too & wish I'd bought one now.
I think I need to get myself some of that ACV, what's the recommended 'dosage'?? The only thing I take at the moment is cod liver oil for my creaky bones.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Thick cloud that's enveloping everywhere outdoors & the flies are thick too - ewgggg.
A day of indoors. I think it's a scaffolding shift & insulating the kitchen ceiling day..........again. Not a yippee sort of job.0 -

On the plus side grey is Chic ATM. So maybe grey walls rather than tiles etc, but I think you could have a lot worse. Our new bathroom is white suite and tiles ( but they have shadows so a grey cast often) and grey walls and ceiling. I'm putting a shot of not quite turquoise in there by way of an accessory, ( a big mirror) but the inside of our cupboards are painted ( um, cannot remember now, because we've only done one of the two colours)l. Sort of mango. Their will be shocking pink in there too, but only visible when cupboards are open. The idea is its actually very sober, until you go for your toothbrush from the cupboard when you get a slap around the face of colour!0 -
That sounds marvellous LIR. I love grey too - that's what I'm doing the kitchen - a bluey grey cupboard doors once I've sanded them.....again & given 'em another coat....again & then I will have to do a seal on them as they are a water based eggshell doh!
Riveting stuff eh? You can tell I'm itching to get out there & on with it.....not.0 -

For pink poppy.
Regardless of what paint you use the farrow and ball advice guides are , IMO, good. You are stuck with the grey in your north facing room, so ...tough, but , I like the idea of strong warm tones. I think rummer's fuscia could be arresting, if you are brave.
The other thing to remember if you stick to a low cost paint range for walls an d a neutral colour for wood work and ceiling ( need not be white, I might choose the same grey as the neutral in your shoes to balance the impact of the tiles and bath) you can re paint the walls not too expensively when you get fed up of them. Also consider not flat walls...e.g. broad stripes, the same grey and your other colour. Make it look not 'stuck with it' but 'bravely chosen'0
