I'm was hoping to be surprised. Like the lottery, I suppose there's always a faint chance! :undecided
  • morning all,

what a night!!! wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... could have been a lot worse...

Davesave.. yep the prices could have been a lot worse... BUT its all a learning curve at the moment... and TBH it looks as though its the same people going to the auctions...and the people that sell every month, the ones with the really good stock get the money... so it seems as though it also comes down to building up some sort of reputation there too with selling good stock, not only good looking stock, but good meat from your animals too...

I think we need to go down every month, ( when we are not away at an event etc) to get people recognise us etc...

We also need to work out in which direction we want to go with the piggies... and also start getting the word out about our meat...

I didn't hear a thing! :rotfl:River's full, but within banks, so no problems here, so far as I know. Our rain seems to have been spaced out in the last month or so, so the rivers have coped most of the time.

I think the best returns with anything always come from understanding your market and looking at what other successful people do. An idea might be to take a voice recorder along to make verbal notes at auctions. There's not always enough time to write, think and observe, so it's easy to forget.....well, it is for me! ;)
  • Defo Davesnave..

What I noticed yesterday, that I hadn't noticed before, some of the main buyers, watch the pigs being unloaded, so they can actually see who is selling them...

I know the main buyer of the bigger pigs will not buy off certain suppliers, as some their pigs were rejected at the abbotoir .. We tend to stand by some of these big buyers, and 'listen' ok being nosey lol, to what they are saying, to see if we can pick up any ideas/tips etc..

It will be the same with the plants and the flowers, I need suck that and see this year, to get me back in the swing of sowing to sell again...on a bigger scale than I have been doing over the last few years...

Edit.... the wind is picking back up again... wanted to go to another local town today, to have a look in the £££ shop, to see if they had more/different stock of fruit bushes etc

DH and I were talking at cross purposes. I meant for supper, he meant for the garden, So we were waiting to see how the guy we were buying from had interpreted it. He decided we meant supper.

So we have one for supper and one for the freezer. :o

I do want live ones for the garden, but I'd like them in different colours so I know who is who :o. I love guinea fowl. I think they are beautiful and I adore the eggs,

I haven't ever tried the eggs - are the shells as tough as I have read? DH and I both adore the meat, it's our favourite. Although I admit we've not had it since Christmas when we had three of them for Christmas dinner - we are all guinea-d out! :rotfl:

Well, another stinking cold and cough for me, my immune system is not very happy at the moment probably due to stress and issues at work. I had barely got over the last one which was from the festive season. But I'll be taking some time off in a few days so maybe that'll help, and we'll be having a brief change of scenery too.

I haven't dared go and look at the wall in the back bedroom this week, I'm just being an ostrich with it.

Keep safe and warm everyone *hugs*
