Hope eldest has come home now, or at least rung to say where he is. No excuse these days. :naughty:

Very wild here and I stupidly went out without my beanie, so now it feels as if the wind has gone right through my head. Perhaps it has!:rotfl:

Baad sheep was playing "I've got my head stuck" up at the other end, so I had to walk almost all the way there, only to find it was just standing still in the lee of the hedge out of the gale.

We used to think one or two folk around here were a bit bonkers because they told us, "It's OK for you, you're sheltered up there!"
Being 'up here,' above them, never seemed 'sheltered,' but it can be. When the wind hammers in from the west/south west, it comes right up the little valley, where it gets squeezed between the sides, and that makes the gusts even worse than on the ridge. I saw this clearly yesterday.

    Microclimate's surprising sometimes. :)

Now going to check what's been going on elsewhere.......
  • Eldest had text hubby, but he must have missed the texts etc... he was home about 20 mins later..

Well that was the worsed we have had it here...still raining, and still some bursts of wind...

Davesnave.... defo with the food hygiene will be a must, regardless if its already pre-packed etc...

late last night found a great page, which might have been of interest to you Davesnave, about selling your own produce from your land/property.. basically it said you didn't need a license if you only sold your own grown stuff. will see if I can find it again, you know what its like in the middle of the night going through the internet, and looking at umpteen pages etc..

I've spoken to our neighbour with the errant sheep. Deep joy, he's going to be installing a permanent fence. :j

I didn't ask, "Why didn't you fence it when you had the other 3 sides of your field done?" I know the answer, ;) but at least he's seen his mistake and resolved to correct it. :T

Had a plumber here for a social chat this morning and it was interesting to hear his take on heating.

He's a fan of 'dry' wood burners and runs an oil system to do his HW + some heating, with added back up from thermal solar.

Not dissimilar to the way I'm thinking of going, unless one of the eco-Johnnies can convince me to go pellet. Yesterday we were quoted £15k as installation base price for one of those.

That's the basis of 'Farm gate sales,'

"They" can't stop you if the stuff's produced on-site. :D
  • FAB news Davesnave....

Well I have been trying to find some 'stock' to start off another thought I had a few months ago... no bloody joy... but I will keep trying...

I might seem a bit erractic on what we want/can do on our ranch... BUT I don't want to put all our eggs in one basket, I think that would be suicidal in this climate.... I will run a few ideas over the next year or two, and see which ones (if any) are potentially money earners... As I have said before I don't want to do my line of business for ever... and at the moment, I think The industry is getting more and more uncertain by the week...

Just need a flipping break in this weather to get any sort of thing done on the land up at the ranch...

that's the one.......and if it being sold in an already existing building....

Cant remember for that to kick in, it had to be over 5 hectres ( what ever that is in acres?)

Or I might be getting a bit confused as I was just mooching for hours on the next, and everything was just getting a blur then..lol

    5 hectares is 12.35 acres approx. :)

I think it's 15 acres minimum that's needed to before a new farm building can be erected without planning permission. Farms, as opposed to smallholdings, just need to inform the local authority of their intent, then they go ahead in a few weeks if there's no response ort objection from the planners.

    All right for some! :(
