Getting a bit windy here but no where near as bad as other have had it. Shop refit all finished and took delivery of new John Deere ride ons yesterday, still got a couple of pedestrian mowers to come. Overall pretty pleased with the outcome but a few glaringly obvious mistakes that need to be recitifed.

DS2 has expressed an interest in getting the garden up and running again which brings me full circle back to the free range hens. i posted a while back regarding my dilemma of having these hens that weren't laying and I wasn't prepared to fund an enclosure. They must've heard me because I'm now getting an egg a day. They are still free range and no chance of sorting the garden with htme about. Sigh.

DS1 is wondering whether he's going to stay at current job as he wants to go and do the shearing season. I think I'll let him make his own mind up. He's still driving me up the wall and really not enjoying these teenage years.

Off to watch him and his sister in the young farmers performance thingy theu are doing for the rally they are holding this year. Nearly made a real boob this week as I was trying to get tickets to see the Railwayman for Wdnesday night but they were all sold out, turns out that's the night of the performance.

Got to go to visit my mum next weekend, was supposed to be a fun weekend of taking her out and having a nice time. Now its a case of visiting care homes as she's been asked to leave due to my sisters antics. Oh the joys.

Off to see if OH needs more beer as he's watching the rugby.

    Stay safe peeps.

  • Luceille... hope the refit brings in extra money... think its wise to leave DS make his own mind up, as TBH they never flipping listen to parents anyway..lol....

    Alfie.... is he a keeper????

I have taken the plunge and done a FB page for our meat... but it is quite basic..

anyone good at wording things?? on the lines of free range pork... well cared for... and they allowed to run around and get up to their backsides in mud lol....

Going to phone the council on Monday to see exactly what the criteria is to be able to sell to the general public, not just to family and friends... going to ask about the food hygiene cert too, even though everything is pre-packed for us...and then unless it is sold straight from picking it up, it all goes straight in the freezer... it will one of those usefull certs, that once We got it, we got it..

I wonder if it might be worth putting up pics of piggies, getting people to "adopt a pig" and then have the meat from their adopted pig? Or is that too gruesome? At least pics of piggies looking relaxed and happy in their home might be nice? I'd love to take a look at your page, and I'd certainly love to buy some of your pork and/or sausages - I know how happy those piggies have been, and for me that counts. Surely I'm not the only one who feels like that?

Been looking at buying proper bacon on the internet, and came across a butchers in Scotland that do it (while it's horrid expensive it's not pumped full of water) plus if I eat any bacon at all, which I really shouldn't be doing, I figure it's worth eating bacon that cooks and tastes like bacon should taste like. So am prepared to pay extra for a real treat since it's so infrequent. Anyway, the point of this was that the meat they send out is in refrigerated delivery vans (don't know if their own or if they use courier). Guess there must be small producers who use such things, is that worth looking at?

We also buy fresh fish from Cornwall. That comes fresh but prepped and pre-bagged ready for freezer in large polystyrene boxes with those plastic bag thingies that you put in freezer to keep them chilled. Travels overnight (though might be difficult at the mo!) and usually arrives mid morning-ish. Orders over £100 are delivery free of charge, otherwise £7.95. Plus a few other details. Look at the about us section of their website to get full details. Please note I have no financial interest in them, just a very satisfied customer. And thought looking at how others go about deliveries etc might be useful.
  • Bands of rain have arrived, torrential now :( When will these Atlantic depressions stop?!?

That said, it's been so mild that the last thing I want know is a long freeze like last year which will hammer the spring bulbs now just showing.

Anyhow, some retail therapy... Due to the short season in Scotland, will get them started in pots in the conservatory and won't plant out until April.

Food hygiene cert will probably be a must, CTC, but getting it isn't too onerous. DW had to do it, even though she only sold other people's edible stuff when on the WI stall many moons ago.

The wind & rain has been quite bad here. We took the opportunity to visit our local stove shop where they were having a biomass day; at least it was warm in there! :rotfl:

No railway at all to the Westcountry now the Waterloo route is down, due to a landslide near Crewkerne. :(

So glad we improved our log storage and hoarded logs/timber in previous years. All the recent stuff we've bought or been given is too damp.

CTC I really struggle with FB I 'know' we should do it but I have such a mental block over it. I know we could link it to our website etc and put up postings of new and secondhand stuff but I don't. Why? really no idea.

It IS something I need to get over as its a great way of advertising. Any kicks up the proverbial appreciated.

Little landslides all over the place up here dave, The station nearest to me had peoe working to prop the embankment up on Friday I was surprised they hadn't been forced to close it. Trains were late, but not heinously. Today took us an hour to drive just about four miles. :( little town near us on local news, but really not that bad when we drove through it (we had to, was least flooded route, ironically,) certainly less bad than when 'usually' its flooded in the few years we have been here.

The little landslides are really the concerning thing I think. Lots of retaining walls failing.

    Hi all,

Sorry I've been AWOL - having broadband issues. I won't bore you with the details, already had a good moan on another thread ;) Suffice to say I am decidedly unimpressed with e e. I'm on a dongle atm as it's still not sorted and likely to be another week...

CTC you asked a while back about what I do with herbs. I am doing occasional workshops ATM at a local craft workshop. I show people how to make their own natural bodycare products using infused herbs, etc. I have tried to sell the end product at craft fairs but it was less than successful, could've been the venue I guess, plus there's certification required for selling some products. I have sold some ' starter kits' tho. I would like to sell herbs but haven't really got space to grow enough commercially, so its a bit 'as and when' as it were, which made me think of festivals and country shows as possible outlets. I could just do them when I have enough to make it worthwhile. Still pondering - I think I do too much pondering and not enough actioning!
