  • morning all,

been up since silly o'clock this morning, only just looked out the window, and there is a hard, white frost!!! didn't expect that...

Back to work tomorrow.... 'boooooo' early finish Tuesday, off wednesay, then back in as normal then..

I got a sneaky feeling that 2014 is not going to be plain sailing up at the ranch.... and I told hubby I want to try and move in up there in the spring. As you can imagine he give me one wired look as his jaw hit the floor...But I did say the plan and time scale for this place will stay the same...so as usual it does come down to how much money I can get between now and then... which is going to be even harder considering this is the leanest time of the year, and people naturally don't spend....

I am also posting in the 2014 frugal thread, and on the SHTF thread on the os board.. I feel for me the threads compliment each other...

Today sometime I am going to try and do an inventory of what I have in our fridge and freezer in the house, and what tins we have in the cupboard.. and get back to doing some sort of meal plan....

Also going to get up an area in the house amongst the mess/mayhem to start listing my crap on the bay while I am clearing stuff..

and get any old saucepans that I don't use anymore, and anything metal, to weigh in, does anyone know what the going rate for 'general', Aluminum, and electric leads etc is at mo??

    right cuppa is in order.....

CTC I too am looking at household items with a glint in my eye and picturing how much each would be worth :rotfl: In my case it is to allow me as much time as possible at home with Rumlet without stressing about money. We have planned fro being off until Aug but a bit of extra cash would be great to cover any unforeseen disasters.

There is a local shop near us that sells only local produce a lot of which comes from the allotments and private growers nearby. I am thinking that now I am off I may start to do a bit more shopping there as the food is affordable and local.

Hubby was not amused when I announced we are not growing potatoes or shallots this year but I think he can see the logic that if we are only growing a few things it is better to focus on expensive to buy or high yield produce ;)

Rummer why don't you use an old compost bag to grow a few potatoes in, that way it will not use any room as such in the garden... and keep hubby sweet too...

I know I have been saying it for ages, but I really do need to get back to basics, and back to the beginning, when I openly declared my dream of having a smallholding, and how I was going to try and earn/save money.. There are some huge differences between then and now..lol... as in time scale etc, and the fact that back then, certain suermarkets used to except money off coupons off things even if you didn't buy them, as long as they stocked it.. this used to get our weekly shopping down to pennies, and I mean PENNIES.. and also with their policy of refund and retain.. where if you got over charged even by 1p they would give you a full refund, and you could keep the product.......... aaaaaghhhh those were the days!!!

I think that I will need to set a fixed budget for food and take that money out the bank at the start of the week and when it is gone it is gone. For me it is the balance between cost and quality that is tricky to balance at the moment.

One of the most brilliant things Alfie gave us yesterday was a shelf with hooks. I knew exactly where I was going to put it....but of course, forgot it wouldn't fit. DH and I are having great fun deciding where it will go instead.

Its bitterly cold here today. My hands are blue. :(.

I'm starting a huge laundry drive tomorrow. Ready for my new year cleaning drive.
  • Its been cold cold here too LIR..

Typical I get my Mojo the day before I go back to work....lol..

Been going through my kitchen cupboards ( well one cupboard so far )and writing down exactly what I got...

Don't know whether the cats know the weather is getting colder, BUT they have been very cwtchy the last few days.. if we are sitting down the 3 of them are either on us, by the side of us.. or on the sofa with us ( as close as they will tolerate each other..lol)

LIR How is big dog today?? recovering ok?

    Hello all

Managed to drag nearly everyone out today and we went here:
    http://www.blagdonestate.co.uk/about-blagdon/northumberlandia

Had a great time, though must admit to being a bit juvenile and stood on the ladies right breast and said I felt a right t!t.

Glad to get out and blow the cobwebs away. Went to the expensive garden centre and manged to get next years Christmas cards, still need to get the wrapping paper.

Have to go into town on Thursday as DD2 is at hospital, hoping it goes ok. Whilst I'm there hopefully will resolve the wrapping paper issue.

Still not decided what to do with the chooks. DS2 was making noises about growing stuff but the DDs want them to live out their natural. Sigh.

Also looking at puppies, it's over 12 months since we lost Cracker. I've been looking at Working Beardies again and Irish Wolfhounds.........
