    Merry Christmas!

I have a cold I think. And whoever thought of palatable pills for dogs is a prat..l..cat raised the stash and took an overdose this morning. Thankfully all is ok. Curse my cats adventurous foodie habits.

Amoung my gifts is the most beautiful book on preserving. We're also chucking together a pallet compost heap this afternoon. :). Our first one has now almost been emptied and I am pleased to say I have finally mastered making decent compost. Making a decent muck heap is MUCH easier, but rather proud of my compost.

Coconuts do not rot down though, eh?

Hope you are all OK in the dreadful weather that some are experiencing and have your electric supply.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

we then went on for our dinner at little pub in hythe. wow.... started with mince pies and hot mulled something that blew your sox off :p then the starter was a mushroom/bacon/cheese dish [yum yum] then a champagne sorbet , then a huge xmas dinner [all home made/cooked], then a huge xmas pud and custard.. THEN choc bailey's and mince pies...
mum and i wobbled out like helium balloons :rotfl:
    lovely atmosphere... about 30-35 people.
left a tenner tip as it was all done by 2 chefs and the landlord. perfect day...:D

Bit late, but hope everyone has had a truly lovely, peaceful day :D

Yesterday DH and I drove the 90 minutes down to Portsmouth to visit my parents in their nursing home, having abandoned our original plan to visit on Monday 'cos of the terrible weather.....even so we had to negotiate various flooded roads/fallen trees.

It's so awfully sad to see them both now as only three years ago they were managing fine in their own home. My poor dad is a shadow of his former self as the vascular dementia has really taken a hold and neither he nor my mum had a clue who we were :( It unfortunately put a complete damper on the pre-Christmas spirit for me......

We then rushed back to await the arrival of DS and his GF, who were driving up from Bournemouth where they had been spending a few days with her family. After they arrived we had a lovely supper by the wood burner, interrupted only by a call from the nursing home to say my dad had a fall after we'd left :( Fortunately he only suffered some bruising to his back and was up and about, but nonetheless the call made my heart stop momentarily :o

Later after walking the dogs in the village we went to midnight mass at a church in the next-but-one village which was very sweet and brought back happy memories of the many years spent supporting DS when he was a chorister at Portsmouth cathedral :D

Today has been more relaxing than Christmases past as there were just the four of us - plus two mad puppies - but we still seemed to cram in a whole ton of stuff......delicious breakfast of egg, bacon and pancetta bagels, a peaceful walk, presents galore and watching an M R James ghost story DVD, as well as scrummy chateaubriand and gammon for dinner :D Later we're going to try out the Sherlock Holmes game DS/GF gave us ;)

I only wish my parents (and FIL, who passed away in Feb with Vascular D) could have been here to share it with us :(

Hope Daydreamers everywhere have had an equally magical day :D xxx

Edited to add - LIR, hope Big Dog continues to do ok x

Back at own place after visiting family and doing all cooking and washing up. Traditional Xmas dinner of turkey and all the trimmings turned out quite nice, even if I say so myself. Now need a day or two to detox - only white spirits, no beers or whisky...

Been on the M&S web site this evening for sale items, collecting those on Sun from my local M&S. Can't be doing with battling the shoppers tomorrow.

We've had a traditionally quiet Christmas, with a modest walk around the estate as our only exercise. :o There have been few vehicle movements around us, so it looks as if many people here are at home, doing something similar.

We've had it relatively easy, weather-wise, so my thoughts are for those whose Christmas Day was ruined by recent extreme events, and those who've had little or no company today.

After too much food and a long period in front of the box, it was almost a relief to receive a reminder that temperatures will fall sharply tonight, allowing me to toddle-off to protect various plants. I never really enjoy just sitting down and "relaxing." ;)

DD's partner returns on Friday with almost my entire citrus chilli crop, which I've kept alive until now. They are probably the longest sowing to-harvest plants that I grow, so I shall be quite pleased to wave them goodbye. Hmmmm...in two months I will start a new batch! :rotfl:
  • Nowt like a bit of ham (spam!) for breakfast. Just reported Sam Gong from China.

Hope no-one is waking up with a hangover this morning:beer:
  • Well I had a stinking cold come on over the course of the day, but the day itself passed nicely enough. My parents came down at 12 and stayed until about 8:30. I roasted three guinea fowl and we had all the trimmings, and a billionaire's torte for dessert.

This morning it feels like I have a rigid mask of aching on my face, so it'll be a day of not doing much and keeping the obligatory loo roll to hand (tissues can't cope with the strength of blowing nose) :(

    Love to all xx
