Especially the son, who's just announced he wants a Wii (no chance). I shouldn't be looking at Facebook and all the friends' posts with mile high presents under a huge, spangly tree. I'm contracting Affluenza!
I have to remind myself that some of these parents get to spend a lot less time with their children than we do.
i brought my son up from a baby by myself and he had second hand [usually last years "latest" item] for crimble....didnt harm him did it0 -

Joking apart, our kids used to love cardboard boxes converted into garages, dolls houses and play dens, especially as they could help decorate them. Books became a staple gift, and we've tried hard to avoid getting on the must-have bandwagon.
Since they arrived GSs have been playing with auction diecast toys and car boot train set. Cost pennies and have given hours of fun. I dont think there is any correlation between the cost of a children's toy and the enjoyment to be gained from it.0 -
Phew! The kids have loads, really. I am secondhand rose tho', as is my mother, but she is the bargain hunter supreme!
It is what it is. I couldn't bring myself to be involved in all the shopping and waste that Christmas seems to involve often these days.
They were most excited about seeing their grandparents last weekend (that's done now) and eating the legs of one of our pigs in a family meal - the Mangalitza was delicious! Our neighbours are lovely and a bit like surrogate granny and granddad who live nearby, so it'll be great to spend tomorrow with them and their grown up children for the big Christmas meal. I feel almost festive about it. Right, better get present wrapping. One good thing about not buying much, is it doesn't take long!0 -

That said, this is the first year DDs are not having stockings. They are 29 and 24! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Plenty of bargains in my supermarket today and still no rush. Didn't even need to queue at the till. And they're open on Boxing Day, when I hope they're totally ignored.Going by today, they probably won't do well. Folks here are very laid-back, it seems.
Update on DD2. Just now she's not far from lir.0 -
