and, well getting there..lol
The crack was only on the outer stone wall, nothing on the inside, and the coins on the corner, where straight.. The stonemason sees this type of thing all the time, working with cadw etc... so he stitched/re-built parts of the wallWork to live= not live to work0 -
What a difference CTC with very step you are getting closer to fully living the dream!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Hubby told the stonemason I wanted to in by July, he laughed and walked off...lol... BUT hubby didn't tell him we were moving in and live in only one half of the house...
Alfie.. IF we get that glorious bathroom out in tact, do you want it? to try and flog it on down your way????Work to live= not live to work0 -
BD - lovely to see/hear you are all (inc your gorgeous pets) settling in well
Dave - great pics
Rummer - exciting times ahead.....make the most of being able to get a good night's sleep in the run-up to Rumlet's arrival
CTC - gosh, that does look better! It's amazing what a difference a good tradesman can make - well done
We need to get our stone walls looked at (whether we decide to sell up or not) as the side/rear rubble stone has been inappropriately pointed - possibly with cement, but either way pretty poorly - and the front (ashlar blocks) have delaminated in places
I really think you're making the right decision - glad your DH agrees with your plans- and am very excited for you!
No such excitement here, as our two shower rooms are STILL awaiting completion.......one loo was found to have a leaking firing crack on Thursday and the replacement is due here on Monday......let's hope the supplier doesn't let us down as that's the last day our plumber is booked in for. On the brighter side, what has been achieved so far looks fab - and just to get rid of the displaced cistern (in the room above the loo, lol :rotfl:) and acres of exposed stone puts a smile on my face
Keep warm everyone and have a good weekendMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Ah, well, I had a few 'experiences' in my thirty whatever years.....
:rotfl:
Today I experienced nothing but fibs from the weather people, who kept telling me we were having sunny intervals, but I know for a fact there were few of those between here and Okehampton! Mizzle and drizzle all day.
Coming home over the tops, there were some stunning cloud formations and the visibility was tremendous....but there was nowhere to park a blooming great van so I could take a piccie.
The good news.... If I read their new hieroglyphics correctly, it looks as if the council is preparing to do some serious drainage work on the road outside. If they do, this will end over 20 years of a serious hazard, not to mention the yearly addition of hundreds, or possibly thousands of litres of dirty spray to our front garden.
Edit: That wall is coming on a treat, CTC. :T0 -
Sounds like you've got a plan CTC. Good luck

Ohh hope the plan works out for you CTC - having a time frame and goals worked out can make you feel much more in control. Brickwork looks great too.
phoebe1989seb hope you get your shower rooms sorted soon - sounds like they will be worth the wait.
I have had a very MSE afternoon going through the paperwork for this house. Contacted water company for a reduction as we have a soakaway. Contacted the other water company for a meter (should save over £200 a year on the rates). One water company provides the water and the other the sewerage.
Filled in a form for the local authority to see if they will give me a 'disabled person' discount on the council tax. Also investigated the council tax band, and I think that it will be worth asking for a re-assessment. The properties around here are all different, but ones the same size in this street are a band lower, apart from one which is marked on the VO website as 'improved'. Ha, this property certainly hasn't been improved
Bought a halogen table top oven (the oven fitted in the kitchen has no door) and it arrived yesterday http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Premium-Replaceable-WARRANTY/dp/B002LYQF7A/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Mr BD is a convert, and thinks it is wonderful so he is a happy bunny:D
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

We have the black AJ model, BD.
It's been murky & mizzly here most of the day. One of those days when it doesn't seem to get properly light.
However, it's only 2 weeks to the shortest day :j & then the days start to lengthen.
Stonework coming on well, CTC. These things always seem to take much longer than hoped. Better to do it right first time, though, than have to redo stuff.0 -
I know this sounds silly, but I feel as though something has been lifted from my shoulders by setting a timescale, now whether it will happen by that date is another matter, lol... but at least I do have a date to focus on..
Pheobe, Not only is he a good stonemason, he is honest and truthful and blunt in his opinion etc on the place.. There is no beating about the bush... this house is no way for the faint hearted, BUT gently and quietly is the best way to go with this place...so we are ( hopefully) not going to cause more problems by going bull at a gate with it, which also fits in with us doing the work when we have managed to get/save some money...
The worst and potentially seriously major and expensive work is the other side/end wall of the house.. which might have to be rebuilt, which will take a good while to save for, But will not stop us from moving in, and living in one side of the houseWork to live= not live to work0 -
