I hear there was a 90mph gust on the Mumbles. Don't you just love it when there's warnings & panic for 70mph & nothing for 90mph :rotfl:

LIR, If you're still outside playing with the pH tester you'll end up half way along the M4 ;)

Typical, thank goodness it has calmed down this morning.

Just spent a fun few minutes replacing the rear firebrick in the woodburner. Bought it via our local showroom and we were fleeced on delivery charge and let down by bad service. Contrary to what was agreed it was sent to the showroom who didnt bother to advise us it had been delivered or deliver it themselves. We ended up collecting it. As we frequently send stuff by courier I know what it costs to pack and send, I reckon they overcharged me on (non!) delivery by a factor of 3.

Daft thing is they have made a killing out of me this time, but I wont use them again as a result and they lose out in the long run. I think Itsme or Lir posted on here about better service in the cities where there is more competition. Too true :(

Grrr. As you say, they only make a mug of some of us once, rhiw.

At least last night's bad weather didn't seem to spoil Bridgwater Carnival. The night of 250,000 light bulbs.

The winning cart - carts & cast move. Love the beasties :T

The winning tableau - they have to stay still for the entire procession. If they're caught moving they lose points.

Went out, bought ten litres of fuel for lawn mower in two plastic things cause cannot find my ten litre one, came back did a lir fall, one of the things split. Petrol every where. Then the heavens opened on me.

I sat in the rain and laughed.

I won't cut the grass today then

A nice bright and clear day today after the torrential rain of yesterday :D

I am hoping to go out for a short walk today as it is so nice. I will start with a turn round the garden and then will take it from there.

When I looked out the upstairs window at the side (veggie) garden I was a bit  to see just how overgrown it has become. Now you can't even see that there are raised or separate beds it just looks like grass and creepy buttercups  Ah well at lest I know the treasures underneath ;)

Oh dear, how dreadful! Glad to hear that you found the funny side, best way to look at things :D I think you now deserve a warm drink, something tasty and a rest in front of the heater.

Love the floats, Itsme. Haven't seen the Carnival for a few years now. :(

Hope hubby's tooth is responding to the antibiotics today CTC. Nothing worse when you are working, except the runs, maybe!

You were clearly not intended to cut the grass this weekend, lir! I've given up on ours for the foreseeable. :o Think I'll pop down to see Pete this afternoon and find out what he plans for our hayfields, for that's what they've become!

I had a couple of vermiculite cheeks made for our wood burner last year, but I exchanged them for veggies, or something, so they didn't cost anything. :D

Totally fed up with processing sweet peppers now, but the end isn't in sight yet. If we get a frost, it will be! All the squashes are indoors and the tender plants are under cover so it can do what it likes. :)

Doing Christmas tomatoes again this year! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Sun all day here in Glasgow, and warming if you are sheltered as I am on the south facing patio :)

Took the opportunity to do some much needed weeding and also sunk more perforated pots filled with gravel as make-shift soakaways.

Decided to get all the bulbs in regardless as they were sprouting on the shelf, so planted up 2 proper pots and 8 plastic. Once the dahlias get frosted, I'll lift them and just plunge the plastic pots into the ground.

Cut down the leaves of cannas in my big terracotta pot as they were past it, then decided just to bring the whole pot into the conservatory rather than lift the cannas and store them.

Quiet a palaver as the pot must be 75lbs plus, so had to bump it in on my porters trolley.

The cannas I brought in weeks ago are still in full leaf - not quite sure what they'll do over winter if the temp stays above 3C? I guess I'll just keep them barely damp.

However, did notice that a white mite has appeared on the leaves of one plant and they're getting sticky with honeydew. Will need to swab down with diluted meths and give them a spray.

A good day today :j some furniture sold so more space and pennies for us :j

I only managed a short walk but it felt good to be out and about. It is very cold here today and I think this week will have temps close to freezing

Going to put the winter box in the car tonight when hubby gets back from the dump, you can certainly feel a massive change in the weather.

Just ordered the oil: 1000l @55p/l, so not a lot of change from £600. Where's my Winter Fuel Allowance when I need it?

Daytime temperatures have gone below 10c here for the first time in many months, but at least the wind has died-down.

Pete really isn't a happy bunny. He's found it hard to sell sheep recently and several vital and expensive pieces of machinery have broken down, hence no hedge cutting yet. The rivers have also been out early, taking fences, especially where the idiot council hadn't removed their scaffolding from a bridge. That's all smashed now, but not before diverting the flow by trapping debris.

What are you marking out, lir?

Cannas should be kept just damp, IHS, but if prevalent near you, I'd check them while dormant for vine weevil grubs. I don't recall ever having them in mine, but I grow loads of weevil magnets, so that may not prove anything.

My record pepper so far weighed close to 8oz in old money.:) Some varieties have been poor, but the old favourites Marconi, Chocolate and a new one, Nocera Rosso have all performed.
