Might get the best price for holly at the florist failing which a car boot? Or make wreaths?
I suspect it will be windier here over next few days than it was during the storm.
Waiting for the temperature to drop a bit before we switch to winter tyres, I've known early November weather to be several degrees below freezing but its been unseasonably warm. Even so we're not hairshirting about having the CH on first thing and a fire at night. We find a comfortable sitting temperature in the evening is about 21C, so the woodburner serves to heat the lounge
Rummer, dont worry about moaning, it helps to talk about problems from time to time.
GDs in full regalia and make up yesterday, so no doubt got back loaded with goodies. We had just the one visit from treaters last night, so the bowl of sweets remained largely intact. "Happy .....errr....?" one mite piped up.
Happy 1st November to you all, its officially the run up to Christmas!!
Get ready for endless crimbo music in the shops, baubles and false cheer.

Not for me.
DH and I come over all American this time of year. Its not run up to Christmas till after thanksgiving, which we do in a very quiet way on the wrong day ( as obviously, DH is usually at work for thanksgiving. However, its celebrated at work in a big way, they have big meal and drinks I. The canteen.
At hime I don't do a turkey, but rather a roast chicken, mash sweet potatoes ( yams ) with marshmallows melted on top......its better than it sounds but I only want it once a year:rotfl: cranberry sauce or stuffing and pecan, pumpkin and one other pie.0 -
LIR... it would prob get nicked if we put it outside this house:rotfl:
Might phone a couple of flower shops, but its only going to be a small-ish amount, unless I can mix it with just the plain green one..
Just exchanged £15 worth of Tesco club card points to £30 worth of boost vouchers to use on toiletries, and it just so happens the men's gift sets are also half price as well:D So by my calculations I will have £60 worth of men's toiletry gift sets for £15:T:T Which I anyway, you know the ones, the lynx shower gel and body spray, adidas etc
Also boots are doing a super points event, so if you spend £50 you get £12 worth of points put onto your advantage card..
So need to look at the boots website to see if there is anything I would buy first, as even though that is a great discount etc, I don't want to buy things I woulnt have bought IFSWIMWork to live= not live to work0 -

Last year our family Christmas, including antipodean DS1's visit, was held 1st December. Lovely atmosphere and goodwill that kept us buoyed throughout December.0 -

Just stick a sign out when you are at home and have people knock at the door?0 -
What a rainy half term. Very soggy. It's mild though, so in between the heavy downpours, it's quite pleasant out there and the Sebastopols love it
The rain means there's a minimal presence of builders on site though
My mum's coming today. I'll be so pleased to see her. I so wish The 'Rents lived closer.0 -
Managed to get our energy usage down by 12% this year :j so hoping our bills will at least stay stable instead of shooting up.
The next few months are going to be spent trimming back bills and getting our finances in a better order. We are also trying to get our house decluttered which is going well but we still have a loooooong way to go. At least things are heading in the right direction
We had our water cut off a few days ago and it hit home how important it is to be prepared so we are slowly stocking up on bits and pieces for the winter. I always have a good stock cupboard but I like it to be that bit fuller for the winter.
Also going to update the car emergency box with energy giving snacks and wash the woollens so they are fresh for the winter. At least if I get trapped in the snow I will be well fed and warmTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Rummer that is a wise decision, I lurk over on the SHTF board.. and pick up some tips there.. I think its mainly getting yourself into a routine of being organised:cool::D

I have been known to lurk there myself
Recently I have felt that I really need to get my affairs in order in all areas of my life. For the last decade we have been a bit like the grasshoppers who sang all summer and now we need to knuckle down and get organised.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Glad you're feeling a bit brighter Rummer.
Torrential again here. Yesterday we had a lot of thunder & lightening & barely light all day. We got offered a Rayburn to buy so went to see it - the place is truly amazingly remote. Been there before as we do work for the owners, but it's been empty for 20 years & the floors downstairs have given up, so I'll be a devil getting it out, but it was put in 3 months before the house was vacated & it's still got the newness about it apart from a rusty front rail. It's dark blue which is livable - thank God it's not brown, or green or red or that mink two tone coloured one. It's rather smart - so we will have an adventure getting that out. I would love the basins & pedestals too - Art Deco with a built in shelf for soap. Someones had the fireplaces. It's criminal that it's been left empty - own private bay & just the Mountains & Loch for neighbours - massive garden that at one time was really well stocked & hen runs, fruit area etc.
So wonder what colour topaint the massive cupboard I have in storage. I thought a grey, blue - wedgewood type matt colour. The place is a shell so why am I dreaming...........?0
