    "wrong" way.

Must get everything light weight into the shed tomorrow..

I was thinking the exact opposite! :rotfl:

I wondered whether I should give the hens a few concrete blocks to perch on, as last time we had severe gales, their shed moved backwards about 6"

Have you all 'battened down the hatches' ready for this storm that has been forecast? The telegraph pole outside our house is at a definite angle so I hope the wind isn't blowing this way when the storm comes.

Interesting reading your discussions about renewable energy - with all the increases in fuel prices it certainly focuses the mind. We looked at a house once which was powered by DIY solar panels at the side of the house. Trouble was it was a dull day and the lights weren't bright enough to see the rooms properly. That was a very 'individual' property. Had newspaper stuck on the ceiling and a push button car radio inset into the wall in the hall.

CTC - good news about the people who burgled you - like the image (or should I say odour :D ) of over cooked sprouts in a prison cell!!

Dave - Mr BD had a flu jab a few years ago and he felt dreadful afterwards too - its put him off having another one.

Had a very frustrating day on the house front. Yesterday the EA told me that we would be able to exchange after all today. But then it didn't materialise again :mad::mad: , but he didn't let me know until just before 5pm despite my emails. So we will be tied in to our rental until 27th December and the EA has basically said 'like it or lump it'. Not a happy bunny and seriously considering telling him to stuff the house and we will look for somewhere else. Mr BD said that in effect this is the last straw and he is fed up with the messing around too.

Back on RM and have found a doer upper for £150k - ohh it's tempting - and don't you just love that kitchen

Better Days If you are not truly in love with the house and in a position to keep looking then you could walk. We were messed about something awful when we bought our house but we were smitten and knew it was likely to be our forever home so we stuck it out.

I'm not a great one for cutting flowers from the garden, but seemed silly to let the dahlias get hammered by rain and, soon. wind.

It'll be bleak and indeed grim here when the clocks go back, I'm already noticing the sun hardly gets above the roof lines of the houses opposite. My SAD light is ready to be used from Sunday :(

Still managed some weeding today, back lawn is like a swamp of course. I'll really need to think about field drains before relaying turf next Spring.

Indoor job this weekend is replacing the kitchen sink, hated it when I saw the house last year but it was on the 'nice not essential' to do list.
  • Alfie, okey-cokey make sure you take care driving....

BD...That place looks as though its screaming out for the right owner to come along and make it into a fab place... I'm sure a bit of paint, and a bit of fablon on those kitchen cupboard doors will make all the difference:D:rotfl:

Thanks alfie - if we did go for this house I now know where to get good advice on rescuing a kitchen :D:D

Rummer - you have it spot on - if we loved the house it would be worth the hassle and the extra rent, but we don't. So even this late on walking is a real option. Just don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face. It doesn't help that Mr BD has been in his Agatha Christie play all week so his head is full of amateur dramatics and not houses.

IHS those dahlia's are lovely, mine are well and truly finished now, they all got broken in the winds a couple of weeks ago. I'm beginning to think of that glass table as your 'magic plant table' not quite sure what pretty photo will pop up next on the thread :cool::cool:

CTC - so you love the kitchen in that £150k house too! I was thinking I could just paint the cupboards with some Farrow and Ball paint - its what everyone seems to do round here to 'posh' anything that needs rescuing. And I'm sure that mat in the lounge just needs a dyson and it will be as good as new :rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for making me smile chaps - really needed a lift today. :D:D:D

Hmmmm, sitting unwell all day gives me too much thinking time. OK I was chewing over next year in the garden and I am only going to use 2 raised beds (1.2m x 1.2m each) and the tyre pile (5 tyres) to grow veggies so what should I grow?

Soft fruit is in the other raised bed and in the long beds around the garden and we have a well established herb garden so it would really just be veggies. I was thinking:

    Courgettes
    Beans
    Salads
    Kale
    Chard
    Spinach
    Peas

I am trying to think of crops that we would get good value from in a small space that would also take minimum effort ;)

  • BD I saw that house on RM last week when I was mooching around and immediately thought of you! Maybe it's come up for a reason.

Rummer have you thought of square foot gardening, to make more of less space? Plenty of info about it on the net (or I have a pdf of the book)

I see a theme developing here - I have a large amount of reading and visual resources I have acquired from the net :D

Alfie enjoy your lunch date tomorrow and be careful driving!

Have a good weekend all
