It looks like we wont exchange by Friday (although we have been ready for nearly a fortnight). This means we will be liable for another months rent and will be tied into this property until after Christmas.
The local search on the vendors purchase is still not back despite me telling the EA (who told the solicitors) that a quick phone call to the LA and the search request will be d/w urgently. Also documentation re the drainage easement still outstanding - it exists apparently, but has not been located.
I put some pressure on the EA yesterday by saying that we were considering how we could mitigate our extra costs due to the delays which are no fault of our own. I don't want to be unfair to the vendor but I can't think of any other way to try and hurry things along. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

OK fowl are not sheep, I know.
Separate building.
Mind you, the whole of Hatherleigh market hangs in the balance longer term, so we should expect some kind of change. That's why I always snap some photos when I go. I'm hardly James Ravilious, but it'll be nice to have a record.

Our Marans are the complete opposite. If you go into the garden they are in your face, tripping you up, trying to get the chick crumb out of my bag before I put it in the run for the Brahmas, swooping down like seagulls to steal the porridge off the spoon before I put it in the feed area. You get the idea... I'm getting quite attached to their lack of consciousness and in-your-personal-space ways. They are three pullets, but yet to lay an egg, though! I thought point of lay for hens was about 20 weeks. The bantams are at least 23 weeks old and I don't know how old the Marans are, but they're huge... No eggs from anyone yet - even the layers haven't laid in about 6 weeks since they started to moult. No eggs for 6 weeks with 15 chickens is rather frustrating.... Have I said this before? :cool:Morning. I feel better after 8 hours solid sleep, which is unheard of for me.
Looks like a passable day out there, but I hear that there's some concern about the weather on Monday.
All our hens are in together, as the Marans have joined the main flock. They are skittish things that flee from human contact. The cockerel is handsome and quite a wuss at the moment, but unless the females lay some amazingly dark eggs, I can see a trio heading for Hatherleigh next spring! :rotfl:0 -

Hard to say anything very positive, but we completed on this place on 31st July and move out of our rental till 19th August. Even then, we were going to and fro for some time after.
Of course we had a lot of stuff, all 100miles away, including plants and materials at a third location, but having a whole month to do the moving etc was useful.0 -
The eggs are unlikely to come from the youngsters this year rozee, as the days are now too short. The moulters might resume partial production though.
Three of our Fenton Blues made it into lay and the other three didn't.
I think individuality is more pronounced in hens than I imagined. I can well imagine that Marans raised elsewhere behave differently. Ours were raised by Dolly, one of the Silver Dorkings, and she wasn't exactly a laid-back Mum, despite being normally quite affable. We wouldn't use her again.
Luckily, since Dolly has ceased her maternal duties, she's come back into lay and has been fairly belting the eggs out!

My Marian's were quite feral. We had them from two (?) different places. I was disappointed as they are meant to be a rather demonstrative bird. ATM all of mine are somewhat feral.....lack of input.
Seriously considering not replacing ATM.

We're going to visit a highland stud next month to see what DH thinks of highlands. Of not smitten I'm tempted to get the stabling in and let the place as a yard and resign myself to the fact my equestrian days are over. It would be a shame but also make life a lot easier......0 -
LIR that is a huge decision to make and a hard one.
Well the scumbags that broke into our place, must have been in court today, as one has been sent down for 17 weeks, the other 2 have had suspended sentances with 250hrs and 150hrs community service plus they all got to pay court costs and us compensation..of between £300 and £400 each.. so hopefully the one in prison will be eating his crimbo dinner with loads of over cooked sprouts in his cell:D:beer::beer::beer:
we also now know the name of the 3rd person invloved;)Work to live= not live to work0 -
