You can buy all the parts to make a solar power system in the UK CTC, though if you want to qualify for FiT, everything has to be put in by an approved installer.
Is your stream reliable enough for powering anything? Ours isn't, but it's too far away to be useful anyway.
Looks like we have a potential nasty storm approaching for next Sunday night/Monday. A case of battening down the hatches and crossing fingers. I must say having the barn end sorted makes me feel easier at times like this.
EDIT: Snap, rhiwfield! :rotfl:
The local rag is saying to expect "the worst weather in decades" & we're not even (currently) on the southern side of the storm where it would be worst. That honour is passed to alfie, I think
The storm hasn't formed yet so there's still a chance it may not quite come our way. Fingers crossed.
Met Office warning on the Tube0 -
Urgh.....I suppose that means taking all the electric fencing down?

Yes there is - PM me your email address as I have it as a pdf file, although it's an American one"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Sick and house tied again
I have however had a wee look out the window at the flowers in my back garden and they are so uplifting
Now that I have had time to reflect I am 100% decided that the decision to not take an allotment is the right one. When the garden is run slickly and we have maxed all our growing space and potential, then I should acquire an allotment.
This summer I want to get he raised beds growing and the grass and hedge well maintained and I think that will be ambitious enough.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Just had a real humdinger of a thunderstorm! Was sitting at front door having a quick cig
when eyeballs seared by huge flash right across the sky, 2 secs later nearly had a heart attack the thunder was so loud! Sun's out again already! Bet this doubles the rate of growth of the lawn! And the weeds at the lottie!
Fingers crossed it stays a bit dry tomorrow for some of the time as we need to go to lottie to secure the trugs and plastic chairs and the cold frame in case we get the wind they are suggesting may happen Sunday. Though currently we don't seem to be in the windiest part thank goodness!0 -
Alfie I don't mind, but do you want to re-arrange the meet up, due to the weather??? they really have given it bad...
The wind is picking up here, leaves blowing everywhere.
Also Don't forget the clocks go back Saturday night/sunday morningWork to live= not live to work0 -
I am sure you are all prepared for coming weather, if you can, keep in touch so we all know each other is ok. It looks as if we are hopefully going to miss the worst of it however I am going to prepare regardless so that I don't get caught unawares. Especially since the two of us are not doing well health wise.
Today I slept most of the time but have felt no better, I think it is going to be a long and very slow moving week.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Very few of us ever get our gardens running slickly because there are so many other things that get in the way.
For example yesterday I had to spend an afternoon putting chicken wire on a boardwalk so that we won't break our necks. So, no gardening, apart from bringing all the stuff in pots/tubs into the polytunnel because we have cleared out the toms etc.
And today, hearing how much rain was forecast, we decided to ease and re-varnish a door on the old conservatory. Well, I eased it, but the varnish job was half done when the rain arrived! Lucky it's all being demolished before too long:rotfl:
Ooops! Gotta go. Hen locking-up time and DW isn't here.0 -
Am really glad the very tall ash tree with honey fungus was dropped a couple of years ago.
I had reckoned it could take out the back windows if it fell the "wrong" way.
Must get everything light weight into the shed tomorrow. Next week one of the jobs will be replacing the concrete fillet waterproofing the join with the house but will not have time or the weather to sort it out before Monday.
See you next week.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
