Still, on a positive note, despite the rain the other flowers have stood up well. I was incredibly late in getting dahlia tubers started and mine are just coming into flower, so am hoping there won't be a frost. May get some fleece just in case there's a sudden cold night.
There are a few other late season flowers in my borders, like Vernonia (Ironweed) which is about 7 or 8 feet tall and Aster lateriflorus 'Lady in Black,' which is an amazing plant I'd never be without, as the foliage is so wonderful. There's a few other things just peaking now, but I can't remember what they are.:o
The dahlias have been their usual amazing selves, having been in bloom for three months or more. Most of them survived the battering recent bad weather gave them. Will I leave some in the ground this winter? Hmmm...not sure!0 -

One tall plant I want to try is Eupatorium maculatum (Joe-Pye weed). It never liked the dry conditions in my last garden. I was thinking match with the Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple'0 -

That's something I have, but it's not grown anything like as impressively as I've seen it elsewhere. It's good for insects.
I'm waiting for my Clerodendron bungeii to grow to a decent size. I always think of that as Joe Pye's posh cousin!

Luceille Davesnave and Alfie have worded it brilliantly..You are part of our family if you like it or not:p.
Its a nice cosy thread... and it doesn't matter if you have land, or a balcony.. its the daydream thread... Sh!te honestly its taken us the best part of 20 years to get our place, and the dream has been there well before that

Lucielle, everyone else has said it - you're part of the group. There's no "inside" and "outside", we're one big circle of people with shared interests and dreams. Some are further along, others just starting out. Everyone is always welcome, whether they post every day or only once in a while :T
Well... I'm depressedOur departure has been postponed indefinitely and it has cost us a fair bit to halt it at this late stage (we were due to leave tomorrow). However due to things here we knew it would cost us a lot more to try it right now and that would be savings which would be gone forever - not something we wanted to face at present. So, more consolidation and wait for a better time to try it.
In the meantime we both have come down with stinking colds (lowered immunity due to severe disappointment) and can't settle to anything. I suppose I'll need to find a job again now..."...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -

It went ok, not as good as the first one for two reasons...1) didn't advertise or flyer, only used the old book page.. 2) I have a new girl working for us, sorting etc, and the stuff she is pulling out as vintage is:mad::mad: to put the top hat on it, she done a display of handbags etc, and put plastic bags in them to make them stand properly, but she didn't take out the crap that wasin them, so one customer brought a bag to the till, and asked if the purses and old dirty comb was with the bag too:mad::mad::mad:
Motto of the story... if you need things done properly, do it yourself ( well certain things anyway:D)
Also I THINK our Rozee might have some news for us;)
Alex, whats happened then?? seems such short notice for thing to go totally pear shaped. what about the new tenants that were going to rent your house? and the accomedation over in spain?? Is there anyway of asking for your old job back?Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh no Alex.....
Did your tenants fall through?
We've had a disturbed night.
Two am some drunk kids on bikes woke us up, having disturbed and unsettled all the cows. DH went out with the dogs, including dog dog who honestly sounds terrifying, she bays in the most blood curdling way and really sounds as if she's going to kill someone.
Kids soon scarpered, but to be honest, most things would, werewolves would!
Then rather than wake the farmer we quickly checked none of the kids had gone in with the cows. Then we heard some lamping going on (would't have heard it were we not awake) and had to call the police for that..

oooo nooo LIR that's terrible, hope the police did investigate it..
lol the sound of dog dog... When we had the bloodhounds and otterhounds, I used to love it when they 'bayed' I think its a fantastic sound.... You allways got one dog though that just couldn't get it right, and would have this wired sound coming from its throat:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -

Nothing beats hound song of any sort. But have to say, I'm amazed at the noise dog dog makes, Its terrifying. Non of the wolfhounds have made any such hair raising noise. Scary barking, proper song and the occasional bay, but this.......this is the noise of Cerberus I think. :eek:0
