Dull but mild and dry here in Glasgow so have been making the most of it after the torrential rain during the week to try and get outside work done.
Pricked out most of the candyduft seedlings, I hedged my pets by putting a dozen or so directly into the ground and potted-on the rest in the coldframe.
Picked up a discounted tray of violas in B&Q, so put them in. However, I reckon the pidgeons are pulling off the flower heads. For some reason a flock of pidgeons have become a nuisance a around here. I am thinking of getting one of those plastic owls with the head that goes around in the breeze. Or possibly an air-rifle.
Indoors, my "lucky bamboo" seems to be sickly, with some of the stems yellowing and going soft. Am going to dispose of these and plant up some of the rest in soil.0 -

Same commercial hybrid, all 'free range'. 4 in commercial situation still, two here.
Size difference of yolk will be age, but what doesn't come out so clearly in the picture is the yolk colour difference.
Still not impressed by the white quality of the commercial hybrids, dave, what are the Fenton blues like, do they have nice tight, whites?0 -
Hi CTC, I follow your progress and feel like we should all come for a weekend and help out. Not sure if you've ever read a thread on here by Lisa waters (actually a bloke but thats another story) in the end they (dfwers) managed to get DIY SOS to come and sort him out.
I think you're doing brilliantly and we are own worst enemies. I keep wishing lady luck would deal us a better hand but then I look and see we are virtually debt free, kids are nice people (so I've been told) and we keep a roof (rented, real bug bear) over our heads, whilst trying to keep our fledgling business a float. And breathe!
I do try to join in on here but always feel on the outskirts of the group. I have big ideas but no dosh, ah for the lottery win. Me thinks the Pimms maybe talking.

Warm afternoon here in Glasgow, had swapped troos for shorts as working on patio which faces due south.
Anyways, completed a useful job in removing broken halogen lamp from back wall and replacing with some 60W bulkhead lamps and PIR on the garage soffits. Now as soon as you open the conservatory door, there good but not blinding light across patio and garden. I can't stand 500W halogens which either dazzle you or leave pitch-black shadows.
Also planted a Japanese Anemone which is just opening from buds, not the white form 'Honorine Jobert' as none of the nurseries had that but 'Königin Charlotte' which is semi-double pink with AGM. Not a big fan of rose pink in the garden, but will see how this does.
Nursery pic - not mine!
I like Japanese Anemone, but their flower always signal the very end of the season to me, can't recall any border plant which comes into flower later.
Still, on a positive note, despite the rain the other flowers have stood up well. I was incredibly late in getting dahlia tubers started and mine are just coming into flower, so am hoping there won't be a frost. May get some fleece just in case there's a sudden cold night.
The geums have even managed a third flush of flowers which was a pleasant surprise - dead heading must have paid off.
Am now expecting some bulbs I ordered online way back, not quite sure where they will all go...think I may wait until the dahlia get blackened, lift those and plant tulips in that space with lots of grit under them to help get through Scottish wet winter.0 -

I didn't really bother too much with the first few, because I knew they'd be settling down, but as the two layers now produce one a day consistently, I think they've settled.
One lays brown and the other, green! No blue eggs at all yet.The other four may not lay till next year. I don't really mind green.
DD2 has been going mad in Bournemouth trying to find decent eggs. In her own words, "I even went to Waitrose, but I needn't have bothered!" :rotfl:0 -
