Did your tenants fall through?Alex Oh no! Hopefully the delay will lead to an even better future. Doesn't help atm though.Sorry to hear that things haven't worked out Alex, but who know what will crop up instead? One door may be closed at present, but others will open, no doubt.ALEX ...sorry to hear your plans have gone t*ts up ...
i thought it was all sorted months ago, did you have a contract with the tenants you said you had for your place ? what will they do..
Thank you all *hugs*
I hadn't gone into too much detail on here and had generalised things a bit to make it less of an essay to talk about. By "tenants" I meant the grown up children that live here, since they would have been paying their rent while we were out there. However, it was too informal an arrangement for contracts.
As to how it came about:
First off, one out of three moved out. Again. Leaving rent owing - again, just like last year. Another one is on a zero hours contract and complained to his team leader that he was having to work too many days with no rest days, so he was told to take as much time off as he liked (bearing in mind he'd get no pay while he wasn't working...) which is what he did.:mad: The third one is reliable but it's a cash in hand job and so even that has a degree of uncertainty since she has a tendency to change jobs once or twice a year. And to top it off I was finding nothing at all on the net in our target rental range that would suit.
So, reliability of income decreased rapidly and we decided it was just too risky at this point, knowing that we were likely to get shorted out of rent as well as still paying the bills here and all our costs out there. A financial disaster waiting to happen, and it would have eaten all our savings in all likelihood, something we definitely didn't want! We thought we would have ended up having major rows and would be forced to come back after a very short time, having experienced no health benefits due to the money worries.
Yes I could get my old job back. However, DH says there's no need for me to rush into finding anything so I can take a little time to decide what to do next. And I don't *want* it back, too many things have changed there in the last 12 months for it to be a "nice" place still to work. The money side of things (me working, anyway) isn't too relevant as it won't make any difference if we decide to trundle off somewhere else, it'll be lost income. We need to focus on what to do with this place to get more money out of it.
It cost us our flights, the cat's health cert, a train ticket and a week's accommodation, so it's less than a grand. Compare that to our savings which are... well, considerably more than that... and it's not such a big deal. Just very, very disappointing. We've been looking forward to it for so long, and we made the final decision not to go on Friday afternoon. We were due to leave today.
I guess we wait and see what happens next. At least it won't be complete financial meltdown :rotfl:"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Ah, understand better now, Alex.
It wouldn't be helpful to comment further, as I don't know enough, but my own experience is that family 'tenants' never really pay their way. I've always regarded that as OK, provided being here enables them to reach 'escape velocity' by a measurable route! :rotfl:
Still mulling over various heating options and not coming to any wonderful conclusions.
I've also been studying the power poles around here, and it seems that ours aren't 3 phase, despite the fact that they go on to some big barns which house/housed commercial enterprises. Apparently, 3 phase is needed for a small commercially-sized bank of panels on a field edge. I think the nearest would be just beyond Mr Dog, about 200m from the site I'd use......if I were to do that. Hmmmm....0 -

Gosh, that's a beautiful cover shot. I'd not mind some landscaping like that, sigh.
.
Just scrubbed the stairs.
They are still grubby, but less so.
Its true; Dirt really sticks, huh?0 -
Got the property information pack from my solicitor this morning regarding our on-going purchase (had hoped to exchange this week) and it has turned up repeated planning applications (3 so far) for 77 meter high (previous applications were for higher) wind turbines on farmland to the north of the property we are purchasing.
The current application is pending a decision and haven't been able to get hold of the planning officer so far this afternoon. The proposed site looks to be less than a mile from our proposed purchase. So now need to do find out a bit more info about wind turbines. I did a search of the LA website for planning applications when we first offered but missed this
And my brother rang me very upset, he has had massive row with my SIL and is worried that she is going to take the children and leave him.
And still being given the runaround by Healthwatch about a long running NHS complaint.
Am consoling myself with McVities choc biccies which if nothing else will give me a sugar rush
Beam me up:(:(
Reading the posts, I am not the only one having a difficult time - perhaps we should all have a virtual group bubble bath at Rummer's to relax :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

A virtual bubble bath sounds really good!
I'm listening to the horses go potty while my most annoying client has a lesson with a Person who is a nutter and is doing silly things with the pony....she asked me on Saturday if I would teach her formally and I said no. (I will help her in the school a bit, and stay on the yard while she is riding but for this client in particular i think its very importantant she has someone else teach her...for her sanity and mine!)0 -
If you're all having a group bubble bath will that leave the shower free for me?:D
Sorry to hear of the problems, Alex. It sounds like staying put for now was the sensible decision.
The jury is out on turbines, Better Days. Some for & some against.
The Government has been investigating the impact on house prices. I don't think they've released their findings yet, though.
One part of Devon, luckily not around here, is getting really worried about them.

We don't have to drive many miles, though, before we can see what was (still may be) the largest onshore windfarm in the country. It's been turned off countless times since it opened due to various problems including excess noise & mechanical issues. Given it can't work if there's no wind nor if it's too windy I'm less than convinced it's worth it.
Some locals are OK with it & others claim it effects there health.
On the whole I think they, like most things, are deemed fine if NIMBY. It certainly seems to be either people who don't have to live with them or people who make money from having them installed that rave over them.0 -
