At long last :j:j:j:j - is 'polegate' over now?

    It must be Christmas.....

First, we were booked in today to go for a Hawk Walk up on Exmoor, but as the weather was so misty I wondered if it would happen.... By 11am the sun was just about breaking through, so although visibility wasn't great, we were able to fly a couple of Harris Hawks on Withypool Common. :D

Meanwhile, back at home, Openreach were putting in the new telegraph pole and removing the old, illegal one, surreptitiously moved from a neighbour's land in 2007, before we bought the property.

(Those with no previous knowledge might think the arrival of a telegraph pole would be noticed.:rotfl: However, the fact that it wasn't, just shows what a state this place was in when we took over!)

We managed to return from Exmoor in time to see the old pole fall......:T:T:T

I also managed to hang on to the old pole, not only for sentimental reasons, but because Pete can turn it into a fence strainer or three!

And finally, after we'd had a very late lunch, a visit to the chicken house revealed two more eggs from the Fenton Blues and one of them is blue/green! :):D:):D

The pole is dead, long live the pole (in the correct place)!

Glad you are able to re-purpose it as well, Dave.

choille - do hope you get the roof on soon.

alfie - write to the LL and explain the consequences - e-mail has less validity.

CTC glad you had a good day, and lir hope today was good.

everyone else - hi and got to run.

Had an interersting time at the last of the shows yesterday; last year we paddled so it was great to have dry underfoot.

Encountered one organisation that may be of interest to those doing up places or possible with younger folk looking for additional skills

They seem to be diversifying from NVQs and apprenticeships (loads of funding problems with those now) to shorter courses and have a new scheme which does not seem to be diaried yet.

I thought the temporary works and pr-1919 course could be useful background for people thinking about small holding?

Picked up wallflowers from Dobbies last evening, bit of a rush around as I assumed they'd be open later than 6pm! The DIY sheds are only offering horrible 'mixed' in trays, I wanted single colour wrapped in newspaper old skool style.

Also went to Ikea, mostly as they do cheap plant pots and picked up some for the agave 'pups' I potted up the other evening, plus one for the tradescantia zebrina - that grows so quickly!

Bought a tillandsia cyanea, pink quill bromeliad, now sitting in a pot with pebbles and water to help humidity. I think I'll take into office so it gets the steady warmth, min. 15°C! Can't take the cactus in, those spikes are so sharp!

Good for you! :T Sometimes you just have to get heavy with people, or they walk all over you. If you can get Water Board lads there, I bet you'll sweet talk them anyway! ;););)

Congrats on the pole move Dave - I have three sitting up the hill that need bringing here to mama that were on my apportionment.

Great photo of the harrier hawk - marvelous exciting day that would be.

Lovely photos of your plants IHS. The big sheds plants are very very boring. I found a shop in Alness that does fabulous plants - the whole town is small but has the most privately owned shops on their High street in the country. It's a place you can buy anything. The town also wins the best plants - street baskets, gardens in the carparks - Display thing- a riot of colour & the most amazing daffodils as you go into the town - called a field of hope for McMillian cancer. Never seen such a variety. I do also like nicking cuttings out of their car parking area.

Glad you are getting eggs & colourful ones too dave. I'm not getting many now. The youngsters have started roosting on the fence of an evening so I have to lift them into the house - bit of a clart but better in than out for the pine marten.

Brilliant day here again & got some limbs logged up & stacked - that always cheers me - seeing wood stores getting higher & higher, but just a start so far................

Will have to sort my lambs very soon - my how they've all grown, even the Hebs, especially the males - big as their mothers now.

There seems a lot of gut big brown hairy cackerpillas about this year - I think they're cinnaman ones?

I snapped this picture of some buff tip caterpillars today. They are eating their way through one of the hazels. It wasn't doing very well to start with!

Cinnamon moths used to be common when I was a kid, but it's rare to see one around here now. :(
