Sorry, trying to keep up with iffy internet isn't easy :o
Did I miss you say where you think the excess water is coming from, alfie?

Edit: Ah, right....... a leaking pipe. Presumably the supply pipe from the mains to your place? (I'm guessing you're on mains). Do you pay for the water yourself or as part of your rent?

Good on you Dave selling all your plants - that's a brilliant acheivment.
Beautiful Orchids IHA - just a gorgeous colour.
Alfie: You haven't been flushing owt down the lavy you shouldn't? Rubber bed snake mackintoshs are the very worst offenders for causing a prob like you've got........................

New camera takes rubbish photos & most haven't uploaded so I'm well in a bad mood....again. Went up to get eggs from road side & again 4 lambs out & have gamboled down the main road. Got them onto the croft & then came for planks, hammer & nails & clambered about in the half light blocking off where they were getting out. Had a good walk there & back over very rough terrain, by which time it was black dark. OH got the lambs back in the field they'd come out of, but I'm still not speaking to him.

Just finished listing all I can on the bay & really feel worn out now. Will have to redo most of the photos - so disheartening.

Choille, sometimes new cameras take some getting used to, especially the macro functions, and the gloomy weather doesnt help!

It's worth remembering that (unlike us) you've got a smallholding to run, house to build and business to run, so our getting a few Ebay photos right, with loads of time to do it, pales into insignifance compared to what you and OH are achieving ;)

Sawing down dead limbs off trees this morning - really warm & sunny here - how odd it feels!

I've done a bit of that myself, but not sunny here, just windy and grey, but warm with it.

Best bit of news is that one of the hybrids has laid! :j OK it was a small egg and it wasn't blue or green, but it's an indication that we may not be eggsasperated trying to find suitable replacement eggs this coming winter. :D

Overall, things are much calmer in the hen area since the feather peckers left. The new girls seem to have no vices and they're a friendly bunch. Not sure about the Marans. They don't trust us, but Dolly, who raised them, is such a drama queen. :rotfl:

I agree that it takes a while to learn the best settings for a camera, especially doing close-ups. The modern ones with a zillion pixels don't seem any better than my old Sony for that, mainly because it has such a good lens on it. I find them harder to use in that respect, though obviously, if it's a butterfly or similar, the big zoom on the new camera comes into its own.
  • alfie very sorry to hear of your continuing 'pipes' problem. Sound absolutely horrible. I'm not surprised you've had enough.

Very minor by comparison but leaking sink still hasn't been fixed. Plumber came again on Friday to view the 'part' (his mate had already been to take a photo of the 'part' on his phone) but clearly even obtaining this 'part' is a complex and time consuming task.

Love the orchid photo IHS. I now feel rather guilty about the one that I managed to kill and finally threw away yesterday. My African Violet is doing rather well though. And the begonias that I grew from tubers are still flowering on the windowsill.

Well done on the plant sale Dave. I am hoping when we move there is a 'Dave' nearby as the garden in the new house consists of some threadbare lawn a dodgy shed, a couple of trees and a leylandii hedge. There are a few roses in the front garden though. Do you know of any 'Daves' in Suffolk? Or perhaps I should scout out some open gardens so that plant cuttings fall on me like pennies from heaven.;)

I gave in and sprayed the house for fleas. The animals were all up to date with their frontline but I was getting repeatedly bitten. Putting on the heating probably hasn't helped. Not a situation that could continue as this is a rented house. I did a room at a time over a period of a few days so I could escape the fumes as far as possible, and I haven't been quite so poorly as I was last time I sprayed. Seems to have worked as I haven't been bitten, thank goodness for that.

Then new house will probably need treating as well. As the vendor hasn't concerned herself with niceties such as cleaning I doubt flea treatments for her cat are high on her agenda. Considering using DE - anyone had any success with it for fleas in the house? Likely I would be able to tolerate it much better than the spray.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Great - and with all the camera talk did you take a photo of the egg???

Our ex-bats used to lay practically all year round. Frequency tailed off a bit in the winter, but as we had four they kept us in eggs between them.
