Started on the front of the big barn yesterday, filling in with Yorkshire boarding, but it took a long time to figure out.
DW said I hadn't planned properly, because the wood was too short for the way she wanted to do it! I explained that my planning didn't involve cutting off 60cm off each board! :rotfl:
Anyway, we eventually sorted a plan of action and made a decent start.....
Cess pits are way past sell-by, Alfie. I don't suppose the Environment Agency could be doing some 'tests' in your area, could they?
IHS, you can re-calibrate a heater thermostat with a small screwdriver, provided you can get inside the casing, (doesn't need to be switched on!) but you need to do it on a frosty night when the temperature is around zero. I did that on mine, as they usually come on at 5C, and must've saved £££.

I don't wish to rain on your parade, but will they definitely start this side of the New Year? I thought it was the lengthening daylight of post-Midwinter that acted on a gland in the brain to kickstart production? It happened with two of my first birds, or I believe it did, as I bought them in the July and they didn't ever come into lay before Christmas. The other two birds came into lay in the August so they were safe, but the two non-layers went to the pot.
As for other news, plans proceed for the departure. Today we're off to my parents to finish setting up Skype, and a few enquiries have gone out to agents regarding properties to rent. I finished work on Friday and it's time to start packing..."...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Ironed until 2am & then mega holidoid houses swill out - really running all day. back ache, knee ache - easier to say what doesn't ache including Mr Choille's ears as I have been in a reet ole strop. Came home & took loads of photos & the the blubbery switch on camera is blubbery kerchangeered, so gave Mr Choille more ear ache because, because.....he was handy!
What a rotten two bit, good fer nuffink waste of a day.......
Will revisit all the camera talk earlier on by Dave & Rhiw - have a new camera but got that out & they've given us the wrong lead, so gave Mr Choille more earache................................................................................................................Poor Mr choille....................
Oh Choille!!!
Bet you'll be nice to Mr Choille today

My GH is still full of well kilned wood0 -
Gardening tasks for today -
1) Assemble the coldframe that was delivered weeks ago
2) Run vine wires along fences and plant the evergreen clematis and honeysuckle I've had sitting in pots
3) Lift the many candyduft seedlings around the two plants and pot-on
Trying to get as much done outdoors before the ground gets cold & saturated.
Might have a go at jet washing the patio too0 -
Alfie:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
This is also a health issue too, Can you write to the landlord, giving them 7 days to sort it all out, as you are now concerned about the Environment And Health Implications this has, and If the issue is not completely sorted, then you will have no option to get it done, and the landlord be liable for the costs.
Also start taking photos, a photo diary of this, and everything else that needs doing... so you have photographic evidence of it all, including any environment issues... etc.. OR do you just want me to come down, and mouth off to the landlord:D:D:D I got loads of experience with that, we have an issue with units in work, been going on for 6 month... and we cant use one of the units due to the smell coming from next door's business:mad::mad:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I agree with CTC Alfie. Its a delicate balance between not rocking the boat too much so you can stay on you little piece of heaven but really this is ridiculous.I_have_spoken wrote: »Gardening tasks for today -

Chicken house big clean outs on the list this morning, then more weed and mulching, (we'd like to do four big barrows today ...we have a mega barrow which is huge but only DH can push it when full of stuff like well rotted manure!) which should take us half way down the 'new' which border.
I'm also just about to go and look at the raspberries. Forgetting to cut them down last year was not my proudest moment.. Weather, health and then memory all colluded against me. So must get on to it this year.

This is why I hinted that the EA might be running 'routine' tests in the areas waterways, having found some pollution (or been tipped off by an anonymous source!)
Pete got fed up with an often overflowing cess pit from a large, multi-occupant property, which contaminated a stream on his land. He tipped EA a wink, they investigated and, voila, a new treatment unit went in.
I don't know if the EA revealed the source of their info, they simply did some tests, following the stream, not that Pete would have cared one way or t'other! :rotfl:0 -
The EA condemned the charity's cesspit (which they flatly refused to empty & stank) which was on our land. It made not a jot of difference. In fact, the EA told us that they had condemned the sewerage system at the charity's big country house estate 3 years before & were still waiting for the charity to do anything about it.
In the end we went over the heads of the local lot & straight to London HQ. Boy, were the local branch miffed.
It still took lawyers, threats of court & absolutely ages to get any action. Even then we had to do the work & pay for it & the charity gave us a lump sum which didn't cover the expensebut at least we now control what happens on our land.
I haven't been ignoring you all. Our internet has been very patchy for the last couple of weeks.0 -
There was a bit more to it than I wrote. Two of the properties were on the market and had to be withdrawn.
I guess the 'charity' didn't need to sell.0 -
Good Morning!
It is a gloriously sunny day here today and I think we are going to tackle the hedge  then we don't need to think about it again until next year :j
I was in B&Q yesterday and got a wooden framed sandpit reduced from £39 to £5. There were loads of them and they would be ideal for raised beds if anyone was looking for someTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
