Totally grim weather here today. Nothing getting done outside.
Still lots of grass growth.
I turned on an electric heater yesterday and have just done the same again.
The limes have started to turn, lots of lovely buttery yellow leaves among the green ones now, and the Virginia creeper is all set. The cruddy old apple in the back garden is dropping its manky rotten fruit over the garden..
Its beautifully green, but another of those grey days when its hard to tell what time it is without a watch. Proper cold half of the year days those.0 -
It's reasonably mild here and dull.
Having an easier day, as yesterday we went hell for leather to get some framing up on the front of the barn, ready to accept the Yorkshire boarding. However, DW has now thought of a way to overcome the fact that I ordered boards that were 'too short,' so it looks like the job will now be somewhat more complex. Her way will look nice, but take twice as long!
Sorry I can't take the geese, Alfie. The concept appeals, but we have nowhere for them at present. We had another green egg yesterday. Hers are definitely not blue. I'm cool with that. We just need a couple more to start laying.....
Sorry to hear about your two hens, choille. At first I thought you'd only been left with two. Losing any is bad news, but good layers is doubly bad. :mad:0 -

My geese go in with the hens. Its not room we don't have, its the idea of more poop to sweep ATM!

Yes please, I've no boy out there, and don't mind if he's not breeding quality if he's going to guard the girls a bit.
.........no eggs hatched by my bantams...and about five from earlier this year look like boys. I can keep them as lawn birds while they all get on I think......0 -

Our stream is still dry, so I decided that while DW is away visiting relatives, I'd clean it out. If I don't, it'll all come down to haunt me later, as my 'stream garden' is in the lowest section. DW would class this as 'non-essential' work, but it's important to my mental health that I get this sorted.
So far, only some persicaria, astrantias, arum lilies and hellebores have enjoyed it there, due to low light levels. The flag irises are flagging and even the lythrums are lacklustre!:( I will probably add some geraniums that suit, like phaeum and some of the ground coverers, like macrorrhizum, but I don't want it looking too prettified. Of course I have oodles of ferns there and ivy, but it's too early to tell yet if the silene dioica and primroses from the hedges will colonise now there is less shade.
I'm rambling.... What I meant to say was I managed 3 dumpy bags of assorted detritus, and having dragged those up to the bonfire site, I was cream-crackered, so I'm clearly unfit for this 'winter work.'
Kent is beneath East London on a map, isn't it? That's all I know!0
