We had a duck that used to be exactly the same. She'd run in between hens & even cockerels acting like a referee in a boxing match. I even saw her physically lift & toss one particularly belligerent hen out of 'the ring'. :D
Poor old gal lived a long life but she knew when her time was coming. One sunny afternoon I was outside in a deckchair & she decided she wanted to sit on my lap - unusual. She nestled down, turned her head to look up at me, made herself comfy & 5 minutes later she died.

    Ahhhh! sad-smiley-017.gif

I see my favourite duck has been in the paper again:

Hmmm, Court House is popular and a great B&B, but the landlord will regret being quoted as calling Chulmleigh a village, though I expect it was a misquote by the sort of experienced journalists they put on these human interest stories. ;)

:D Probably. Mind you, being called a village is preferable to W.G. Hoskin's description of it in his 'Devon' book.
  • Hubby and his mate pulled down one of the chimleys yesterday, and it looks as though they blocked off the inner one from the bedroom, but not the one that was downstairs in the kitchen, where the fire[lace was, there is now a sink and a window:eek:, no wonder the house was so bloody damp. wet, crumbling down, along with using cement render over lime,

Need to start thinking about the inside, and which way we are going to go about it, as its got to be done one side at a time, as are all still out on whether the 'leaning' pine end needs to come down and be re-built:(

I must be bloody mad, why didn't I carry on trying to save, and get a place with less work???? oooo ye I forgot, they were way too much money and then that would have ment I would have never got a place:rotfl::rotfl:

Just been chilling out on the sofa, with a duvet over me, and mooching on EA sites, there are smallholdings still on there, from when we were searching... soe have got to have been on there at least 4 - 5 years:eek::eek: an they haven't even dropped the prices..

another cuppa I think, then I will shift my butt into gear, and think about doing some work:cool::D

The financial projections are not as  as i thought they would be however there is still scope to make them better :D

I am trying to convince myself to get off the couch and go and enjoy the outdoors but my body is having none of it:rotfl: At least today is dry and I am hoping that OH will cut the grass and maybe paint the first coat of the dining room, oh yes we are still yet to start the painting

My plan is a bit of time in the garden, paint the radiators and paint the shelves for the dining room cupboard. Well at least one of them :rotfl:

    Bit of luxury here :)

Sun shining, looking out of feature windows at R Tweed's 3 bridges while DW gets to grip with the Aga. Super & huge place on the Quay Walls, very quiet apart from the seagulls.

Had a mare of a journey up, heavy rain and lots of lorries making for dangerous and unpleasant conditions. B&Bd at Wooler, auction and fair on Saturday, then made it here a bit pooped.

Loving this place, not sure we'll want to leave nx week :o
Not far from me! Hope you have a good time.

What a lovely peaceful end. My wonderful kitty, Felix, was PTS on my bed next to his brother so the last thing he heard was his brother purring (and me blubbering :o). He was a real character too. I have a friend who is a dog behaviourist and she visits along with various waifs and strays. One collie he terrified so much as he walked past it emptied its anal glands in the hall. He cornered two of her labs at different times. One on the bed and another in the garden. He would just sit there and the dog wouldn't dare to go past him. He seemed to exude a force field of confidence that transcended species. This is him staring at my friends GSD also not short of confidence and sadly also no longer with us

Like the duck story Dave. We had a hen that used to like to sample DH beer if he let it.

Sorry you got caught in all that traffic Alex, time seems to stretch endlessly in a traffic jam, whereas on a sunny day in a lovely spot it just flies by.

I have a confession to make, and I hope that you will still speak to me [whispers] I have had my heating on in the mornings.:shocked::shocked: My health does suffer if I get cold so I don't have a lot of choice. New house only has oil (and currently an empty tank) so I am hoping we can get it filled before we move in.

CTC pulling down chimneys sounds like a big job, not too much dust and mess I hope.

Rummer, its dry here too. Now need to go out into garden and be 'director of operations' while DH tidies up the shrubs etc so not so much to do when we move out.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Better Days we have our heating on 24h when the winter comes due to DD health, you have to do what is best for you and your family. As we are out most the time at the moment a few mins of the fire is enough to take the chill off the room.

I am still on the couch, I will get going any minute now ......... :rotfl:

Re heating, I think if its down to health, then that is different, but what annoys me is when people moan its cold and they only have a flimsy top on, Then they look as though you have 2 heads when you say about putting a jumper on:rotfl::rotfl:

I can remember when we were younger, we only had one open fire in the living room,
