Yes, you'd need something heavy duty enough to take the weight of the tractor & roller, LIR. Some of the plastic stuff is rather flimsy. Rubber, maybe?

Yeah, whatever they use in carparks. I think its a heavy plastic or rubber. Not sure. Its that same honey comb mesh. But tractors and boxes etc drive over it and machinery....so would probably cope with a roller once a year.

This link seems to give all the options & what they're suitable for

The closest I could see to ours (can't remember exactly what make/model ours was as it was about 20 years ago :o ) is something like Grassguard but shaped more like the bottom of an eggbox. A bit like an area of tiny tank traps for those of us old enough to know what I mean :rotfl: For those that aren't .... something like the 2nd photo in this link

In fact, one thing we haven't decided is what to do the front 'drive' in eventually. Its a sort of yard, so e is concrete, and can stay that, leading to two gates, then the 'main' gate and parking area is scrub.....pressed dirt, some grit, some grey stone left over from putting pipes underground, and lots of weeds and grass. The main gate is used by horses so gravel isn't practical (stones in feet). (Though I'd like the noise of gravel as a security device). Also, that faff of raking gravel to keep it neat is a bit of a pain. We have considered that sort of concrete finish where the press a cobble pattern into it? Its not that expensive and neat and not fussy, But its also lethal in winter.

    Don't really want Tarmac

Do the horses cross the parking space?

If not, you could get away with 'kerbing' (not high but deep enough to contain whatever surface you use), terram-ing & spreading 20mm aggregate - as opposed to small gravel. It's too large to get easily stuck in shoes or tyres. We have this on our main parking area. It comes in various colours. We stuck to grey to match the local stone but we have it in Cotswold Stone elsewhere because it's lighter & brighter. Considerably cheerier when everything goes dull & grey weather-wise.

Then you can think what you want for the actual entrance-way & drive. Maybe some sort of slip-proof paviour or brick?

Best wishes to Rhiwie and family for the wedding.

    belated 'Appy Birthday to alfie.

Just a quick message; looks like it is going to rain again and I had hoped to pick stuff for tomorrow's festival stall tonight. Otherwise it is early doors.

Struggling to process the gluts at the moment. However, got the cellar sorted and the first lots of potatoes down there safe from light and frost. Also got the tap unstuck so I can use the large sink to wash various storage baskets etc.

Went to the local show near my birthplace and enjoyed the livestock and the madness of the fell races. No-one broke anything this year and the local hero was 4 seconds behind the English champion (or something like that). They come down that scar at a hell of a lick.

Not a mad as one on the small local galas where they were towing a hay sledge at the back of a tractor. 50p a ride, hang on to the floor with about a 2 inch lip to stop you flying off as it raced round the field. Elf and Safety anyone?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Technically they shouldn't but who knows. Its like a sort of open yard come carriage driveway. Very confusing and a right mess. If I get a chance I'll take a snap and pm a photo so you can see what I mean. (DH rightly bans pics of the frontage of the property)

p.s. i have amazing planes going overhead en route to bournemouth air show :D:D

Tonight we were sitting in the car at our usual vantage point, eating our fish & chips, when in the distance, between the clouds, we saw a huge m like the McDonald's one .

I went round to the boot to get my camera, but by the time I'd found it, the 'm' had dispersed. :( We discussed it for a minute or so and decided it wasn't natural.

With that, a text message came through from DD2 to say what a brilliant day she'd had on Bournemouth beach, watching the planes, topped off by a Red Arrows display....

I've just checked, and today's other Red Arrows engagement, was at Dartmouth. Didn't think we would see that far - we were just outside Crediton. :)

Do you have the roof all on choille? That would make a difference given the forecast up your way.

No, we haven't & it's getting me down. We have a case of vanishing roofers..........

Well sounds like you are mega organised RAS - good for you.
    Cellars what a wonderful idea.

We ran away today & went to an auction which appeared impossibly busy & then we saw the camera crews. It was filming episode 7 & 8 of Antiques Road Trip. We came away & went over to a church antique place that a couple of clients use a lot as they do wonderful salvage of all sorts of places - banks, churches factories etc.& that was interesting. I ended up buying a massive cupboard ( 1.6 metres wide x 0.7 M depth x 2.25M high )that belonged to John Burns the artist guy & writer who did Tutti Fruitti etc. It is ideal to paint & shelve out for the kitchen. It was a snip & he knocked money off & is storing it for us & offered to deliver it when we are ready - wow.

The antique road trip fellas are going there tomorrow so we picked the right day as wouldn't want caught up in that faffing nonsense.

Does anyone see anything wrong in mixing painted furniture with old pine? I have to dream...

Shouldn't be buying stuff & cluttering up the house build but I'm so fed up with no progress.
