You kinda have to get the Planners on side itsme - which I'm sure you know.
Find out what they want & find a compromise, so if not then it's a hard hill to climb. Mr Choille deals with them on an almost daily basis, so I do know what a difficulty it can be depending on their 'preferences'.0 -
Hi all
Haven't been around much the last few days as we've just welcomed a new addition into our family - an eight week old Spanish Water Dog puppy :j She's very cute, brown & white and yet to be named. Her big brother Rossetti the mini Australian Labradoodle is quite smitten :A
DS is coming down from London later to work on his shabby chic furniture business, so things are going to be busy......
Will come back and read through all the latest posts when it's a bit less hectic here, lol!

That's the way when you're talking about getting Planning, choille. This is somewhat different. They don't want anything. Well, only the status quo.
It's about removing restrictions which are making it impossible to offload the place.
There are only 2 choices - change the restrictions or let the place fall down. The choice is theirs. We'll just have to live with the consequences.0 -
Rummer, we all go off the straight & narrow from time to time, no sense in berating yourself, maybe ration your treats instead?
Well, another one married off, beautiful couple in lovely surroundings on a fantastic sunny day. Only thing that went wrong is that DS1 left out a section of his prepared speech, the bit where he thanked his mum & dad .
Now I know it wasnt deliberate (:p) and he was mortified when he realised what he'd done (or hadnt said)! DW was valiantly trying not to be upset as she and DS1 are very close. Then had to explain a bit later, without giving offence, that we couldnt stay till carriages as we needed to get DS2 back to the hotel due to his disability, he was barely able to walk to the car after the cake was cut and the bride and groom had the first dance.
Despite those minor hiccoughs it was a great occasion, GSs were ringbearers, GDs were bridesmaids, all well behaved during the ceremony and able to let off steam later in the enclosed safe courtyards. And the younger guests were getting ready for some serious partying when we left0 -

Is the place listed or is it regarding building materials etc?0 -
Rhiwfield that sounds like a marvellous occasion. A truly big event.
All the very best to them in their new life.
You & Mrs Rhiwfield must feel exhausted, no?
The wind here is really gale force & blowing through rain that feels like getting hit with dried peas. I must actually stir myself & do something....collect eggs at the least.0 -

No, neither.
It's about the use of the cottage(s) being for holidaymakers only &, therefore, commercial.
It's a long story I won't bore everyone with again but, basically, unless someone comes along with cash, lenders are not giving mortgages for mixed (residential/commercial) properties where people, other than those named on the mortgage, 'live'.
Planning can only come up with a) changing from 2 weeks 10 months max to 4 weeks/12 months or, as we suggested 10 years ago when we were still healthy enough to run the place & they turned our offer down, for using the cottage for local-housing. Both mean the cottage remains commercial so neither option allows us to sell as residential. Neither answers the problem.
I object to little tin gods telling a 74 yr old man he has to return to full time work in order to have available holiday lets which is basically what they're doing.
Apart from the nervous oversight (natural) it sounds like a great day was had by all, rhiw.0 -
It's a matter of getting the right lender - ie Commercial.
Know of two here that are now come on the market & there is loads of interest.0 -

Commercial loans require recent 'books'. We haven't traded for 10 years. Only one 2 bed cottage remains set up for use & we pay CT as a 2nd home on it although it's not allowed to be lived in. The others have been decommissioned in order not to pay 6 lots of CT - over £7K pa when we retired. As it is we pay around £4Kpa now for just the house & 1 cottage.
The Government is pushing to allow places with 'annexes' to be used by extended families & are talking about a reduction in CT for the annexes. Sadly, no use if we cant sell it to anyone who wants to use the cottage for the oldies.0 -
Rhiw Sounds like a lovely day and I am sure you DS was suitably mortified at his oversight.
Itisme I can't even begin to understand your frustration. Why they can't work with you to find a suitable compromise is beyond me. Do many people get caught in this situation?
Phoebe That breed of dog looks gorgeous, never seen them before but I am smitten. A picture would be lovely
Choille The kitchen plans sound lovely!
Thank you everyone for being so kind
I am just annoyed with myself for letting things slip as it is much harder to get back on top of things than it is to keep on top of things
Anyway we live and learn. Today I am tackling the bedrooms with the help of DH. Once our room is clear we can move all the things from the dining room up there and finally get the nursery painted :jTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
