_pale_ not a great time here at the moment. Rumlet is fine however he/she is not making life easy for me health wise which has lead to a number of unforeseen costs. The monthly savings budget has also been blown on Rumlet related things which means a month less maternity leave
However time to figure out how I can improve the situation instead of wallowing in self pityI have set aside a pile of ebay stuff and I am going to list some furniture and maybe some musical instruments on Gumtree in the hope I can recoup some of the pennies
Finally managed to get the food bill down a smidge so now at £35/week for two adults, a child and 2 cats. I could reduce it further but I am comfortable with the compromises I am making at the moment.
No garden chat as I am busy sorting the house and getting the teeny ready to return to school.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Just catching up with everything you guys have been doing this last week......have been so busy here with building work and sorting through stuff, plus we had the plumber in to give quotes for two shower rooms - should be interesting (not!) to see how much they're for
- so haven't had much time to post!
Hi SBowden from one newbie to another
Alex - your Fudge sounds gorgeous - I've always hankered after a Red Tabby Exotic Shorthair. Our Phoebe the Persian is a Red Tabby
Dave - your barn looks great - well done!
Alfie - your flight sounded amazing and how lovely to be able to fly over & photograph your house
BetterDays - Happy Anniversary......and so very pleased to hear your good news!
Rhiwfield - that's very true about the *brown furniture* - the sideboard we bought last week was soooo cheap, despite being a good Arts & Crafts piece - a few years back we'd have had to pay 10x what we paid.....and would have happily done so too! It's very good news for those who are needing to fill a house without spending a fortune!
Itisme - sorry to hear about your car troubles - car mechanics really seem to take the peeDon't let them get away with that - they really should have run it past you before doing the work, surely? DH is rather upset about our beloved Defender as a blooming council road sweeping vehicle knocked up a stone causing a nasty dent in the paintwork this week.....grrrrrr!
CTC - mmmmm, the steak sounds lovely, you can't beat a nice fillet steak to cheer you upYour fireplace looks very much as ours did when we bought this place in 2011. The previous owner had tinkered about with it somewhat and added a large multi-fuel stove. We didn't like the exposed stone look - didn't suit our quite formal-looking house - so we've reinstated plastered & wallpapered walls plus a vast fire surround we found on the bay that just happened to fit
Your place is going to look fabby when it's done - that's what I keep telling myself about this place anyway!!!
I'm adding some pics as promised, but not sure if I can do them all in one post. Apologies for the size........
The first is the front elevation when we'd just moved in and had only painted the front door.....
The next two are 'during' piccies of part of the upper terrace area of the garden. This has been a huge transformation from tarmac carparking area for up to 8 cars, including removal of a nasty corrugated plastic/scaffolding pole carport - now replaced with hot tub area - out of shot on right hand side.
It's taken DH best part of five months to get to an almost completed stage.....but we were quoted £4k just to do the driveway, so decided to DIYIt also shows last years project, the new (but still unfinished!) kitchen extension - I think it's rather butt-ugly, but DH likes it
Unfortunately the large lawned area has suffered somewhat as a result of concentrating our efforts on the terrace....but luckily you can't see that here, lol!

Just adding a couple more piccies - of the fireplace in our snug.....before and after, mainly for CTC's benefit
We felt that the PO had interfered so much with the original set-up and that his idea of life in a Georgian village house was a bit too *Disneyfied* for our liking - so we decided the horrid concrete blocks imitating stone pillars had to go

Omg, LOVE your brick path. I have a 'thing' about brick paths. (Probably because I want one here and cannot afford one ATM so will have to put gravel down I think). But it looks gorgeous. Love the slubby colour on the back of the house, and the wheelbarrow green on the wood work too.
Five months?
Takes us tha long to put the kettle on and have a think about it0 -
Stunning Phoebe!0

Rummer, FWIW musical instruments often sell well on Ebay0

Great place, phoebe
:grouphug: Rummer. Hope Rumlet soon settles down
OK I apologise for being a miserable s*dbut I bet you know that feeling when you just want to be able to deal with the pile of hassles you already have to tackle before some bright spark comes along & adds a new one to the heap.

Phoebe your house is wonderful, I love it! I was brought up in a Tudor oak-framed hall house and living in a period property has so many memories (not all great ) but I'm so glad I had the opportunity. There's just something about places with a bit of history that appeals to me.
I will find a photo of Fudge and post it - I'd love to see Phoebe
Rummer I hope s/he starts behaving so you can carry on pottering about. Take care of yourself Do as much as you feel you can and then remember to stop.
Itsme - I'm sure you don't need me to tell you how to have a massive barney but you have my sympathies on the car woes.
Rhiwie, sending hugs.
Everyone and anyone else that needs support please lean on me, I have strong shoulders!
My news is unexciting - various offspring are causing grief in the work department, which is making me stressed and annoyed as we need a regular income stream for what we're doing next. Once Bank of Dad has its withdrawal facilities closed due to relocation, we may get shafted. I don't want that!
PS I think it's the smilies etc causing part of the problem, I saved my message out to a text file and it lost the smilies, but I was then able to copy and paste it as a quick reply."...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0
