    I have concrete to report....:D

Suddenly remembered that we were giving the last 2.5 m2 of our old garden in Bath to the people who bought our house, providing them with full control over fencing and the concrete access path they use.

Emailed solicitor..... Have we sold? (It was £1:rotfl:)

Received answer back...."Yes we did that in March!" :o:o:o

Well, how would I know? We never got our £1.

:eek::eek: are you going to demand the interest on the £1:D

ITSME... fingers crossed the news is what you want to hear

Thanks, CTC. Having received a copy of one letter sent from planning to MP I can't say I'm overly hopeful but will wait & see.
I can't be more specific on here but the options we asked them to consider 10 years ago are now on the table ......... except, from our side. It's now too late to do them due to age, health etc. They're 10 years too late.

I'm very tired, too, but I know it's just world-weariness over all the hassles.
  • ITSME..

I am sure some people that work in planning, have a holier than though attitude, because then can, and just can't see the bigger picture, and how it effects people's lives.. and no one elses..

Dave, lovely job on the barn

CTC, doesnt the fire bring the ranch to life!

Lir, what a lot of space you have!

Alf, you obviously had a great time :)

    BetterDays, great news

Itsme, dont let the b*****s grind you down :(

Well, nothing much to report other than the usual family ups and downs across four generations. Unlike many of you, we dont have any build and conversion works to do so its more living the dream and just keeping the pennies rolling in to make sure we dont have to take carp from anyone :D.

As usual at the local auction there were some juicy furniture unsolds and a fair bit going cheap. Speaking later to an auctioneer on the Welsh/English border he told me brown furniture is still bombing, so anyone furnishing an old cottage in character should be able to do it pretty cheaply, as long as they dont want pine!

Jury's out on our latest buys/disposals (carload new stuff in and a carload old stuff out!). I know we got a couple of lots wrong (overpaid) but I think we may also have a couple of sleepers. Trouble is our knowledge base is poor and internet research only gets you so far. And with govt cutbacks on museum curatorial staff getting an expert opinion has become much harder :( . Still, it keeps the brain ticking over and its nice to live in hope, if not expectation :rotfl::rotfl:

paying too much for stock etc, will only help in the future buying, as hopefully you learn what sells for good money etc, BUT ebay is a funny place, and you just don't know what people are prepared to pay..

Quote for making our clear view safe and good for this winter,...£6ooish. Ok, seems better than a new woodburner really. A lot needs doing to it, and maybe we'll be more favourable to wards it when it actually works properly? ;)

Quote for making the open fireplace in the kitchen ...£800. Hmm. Not so sure I'm happy with that, though some of it is decorative.

They also have a quote for our study woodburner, but despite us saying catagorically we did not want a clear view and pointing at a Canadian woodburner we did want a quote for they have only sent a quote for a clear view. I'm not impressed.

We also have the one we bought on ebay and doesn't work. I don't want to ebay it as working and have some one else disappointed. :(

    I'm spitting bullets

Car went down for it's MOT at the end of July & garage (which we've been with for donkey's years) said it needed a bit of welding & verbally quoted £200-300. When we discussed what they said needed doing we noticed that the repairs to the front had been done by them last year so they said that they'd check. Apparently it wasn't necessary to do anything to the front so they told us it would be less than originally quoted. Bill arrives today for over £597! No picking up the phone to ask what to do. Nothing mentioned when car collected. Saturday & nobody available by phone. I'm furious & by Monday when someone is there I'll have had a day & a half to get even angrier.
I'm positively sick to death of being ripped off by all & sundry.

We had almost the same this year and felt much the same. Our car was bought 'cheaply' as a stop gap and we are now in that stupid situation of having invested too much to make sense to ditch or sell it.

Precisely. We've just been hoping the old jalopy would hold out until we moved. I'll raise merry hell but will, no doubt, end up paying & putting it down to another case of "They've got a big place in the country so we can rip them off & still sleep at night".
Remember the old saying about 3 generations before you.re a local, folks? When push comes to shove, unless you're family, you're a cash cow.
