There isn't an advantage in a polytunnel in winter, CTC. It's much less good at holding warmth than an insulated glass structure. Whatever you have, there will need to be some ventilation or moulds will attack plants in the darker months.

I'm aiming to try a few salad crops in the poly going into winter, but it's our cranky old conservatory which is best at that time, picking up leaked heat from the house.

Out of interest & partially OT. What browser are those of you having problems using? Chrome seems fine for me ...... so far, anyway.

    Trying a longer post.

As you know I have one (perhaps two) feet stuck firmly in the past. I'm a vintage romantic by heart, even though I know that many past times were unpleasant, to say the least.

So last night I was running through a large selection of Victorian and Edwardian negatives and slides, babies/toddlers richly dressed, ships, airships, trains but the family must have lived on a farm and there are lots of animal shots, including one of a prim lady wrangling a goat by the horns, another of a cockerel on a table. Great fun!

Boring old IE8 here, but it ain't broke, so I'm not going to fix it.

Speaking of cockerels, we definitely have two hens and a male in our batch of new chicks. DW says she will keep him if he is:
    • handsome
    • well-behaved
By the latter, she means not going for her like Ozzie did. That was his downfall. (For those who don't know, our Australorp cockerel went to an enthusiast, which was far better than the alternatives. He never showed the slightest interest in the Australorp ladies here and usually favoured the Vorwerks, but I bet that attitude towards his own kind changed!)

ok, I am going to own up, I never use chillies in my cooking,

I get them through with the food stuff for the piggies, an they don't like them, soooooo how do I use them in cooking? do I just take the seeds out, and chop the chillies very small, and plonk them in caseroles, curries etc???

I am now going to base our meals around using this stuff too.. ( well a lot more) so We will save more money,

Edit.... or if any of you lot like and use a lot of chillies I can post them out to you, when I get them

I am the same as you CTC, I leave chillies out of a recipe however quite a lot of my friends will happily munch them raw along with their meal

    I've been Money Tipped!
I like chillies but currently cannot eat any, (medication contraindications).

I wouldn't just add them to any old recipes though, it could taste a bit odd!

What about some simple tomato pasta sauces with some chilli in them? Take out the seeds at first, just add the shredded flesh. If that's hot enough fine, if you want more spice, be less fussy about keeping the seeds out,

Tip. Do NOT wipe your eyes accidentally after handling chillies. Wash your hands four times before doing anything else.
