Our peppers are still green, but I'm picking a few and using them anyway. The chillies are well behind, but I'm not too concerned about that as I have plenty frozen.

I grow Jalapeno chillies, another fairly mild one I nibble called 'Bishop's Crown,' which will overwinter, and some Lemon Ajis for DD2's partner, who's Indian.

You can import irrelevant smileys and it doesn't seem to mind:

We are now down to one caterpillar. The other one disappeared this afternoon. :(

I will see if my friend the blackbird looks extra plump!

Meanwhile, down at the polytunnel a sparrow has become adept at breaking in, despite our netting over the doorways. It knows exactly where a small hole is! I can't find any damage inside, so this is not worrying me.

Another bonfire today as I began preparing the other wood barn to be re-roofed. If I clear it all out today I will have achieved my target, but it's looking unlikely now! :o

Thanks all for your lovely comments about our house :D If you saw the rest of the inside though (with the exception of the kitchen, utility and en-suite) I doubt you'd all be so impressed as it's pretty awful at the mo! Remind me to never take on another project where we're so hands-on, but to get builders in to do the lot ;)

I've been having a bit of doubt about where our future lies of late......It was really DH's dream to move somewhere more rural as I'm a city girl at heart, whereas he was brought up on the outskirts of Southampton and spent much of his childhood in the New Forest. I've always had my way on where we've lived up till now so it was only fair to let him have his turn and he's been longing to move to the country for as long as I can remember......

If I'm honest though, I miss the culture you get in a big city - the architecture, galleries and theatres etc. I also miss the sea, having lived within walking distance of it all my life till moving here two years ago......otoh, we could never have had such a large garden in the city and there are so many amazingly beautiful walks just on the doorstep for us and the Dood!

It hasn't helped that soon after moving here my parents' situation worsened and last summer my dad (who was sole carer for my mum who has Alzheimer's) had a fall, then was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia himself. We had to sell their home of 49 years and they're now both in a nursing home. Unfortunately DH's dad (who also succumbed to Vascular D in 2012) passed away earlier this year :(

When we were looking to move back this way - after the error of moving to Essex - we almost bought about fifteen miles from my parents' house but instead opted for this place. When we later had to select a home for them we discovered there are very few able to cope with their conditions near us, so instead they are some 70 miles away - there's not a day goes by that I don't feel I've let them down and that if we'd gone for the other house we could have visited far more often. DH is such a hero too - he'll drive over to see them whenever I ask him, even though they used to hate his guts......he's even changed my day's nappy, bless him :o

Also, I usually get stuck right into our house projects - and this isn't the largest by a long shot - but I think because this house had been stripped back to the bones by the PO, I'm not able to make an impression on the place till the walls are plastered (long way off in the remaining rooms) or add any finishing touches with curtains & soft furnishings. I've been painting windows etc but I'm getting to the stage where I'll need a scaffolding tower to continue........wish I could do plumbing as that would be very useful and save us a whole load of cash - maybe I should learn, lol!

Trouble is we've already thrown a small fortune at the house - lost count, but must be around £60k - and as we're only a fraction of the way there, I fear we'll lose money (again) if/when we sell.

That said, I think we'll go one of two ways when we decide to move next - for we will move again, of that I'm certain - either to a market town (somewhere such as Marlborough appeals to us both) or else somewhere even more rural and cut off from civilisation as one of our village neighbours is beginning to pee me off with her nosiness and interfering......she's only lived here six months longer than us, but acts as though she's been here forever :p

Gosh guys, I've just realised what a rant this has turned into - hope you don't mind........at least I've got it off my chest!

Hugs to everyone and hope you all have a good, healthy and productive week x

    I've been Money Tipped!
I cannot help but wonder where you are phoebe.

Yep, money disappears into them. Where we are the walks are fewer than where we were before, :(. And I find the landscape off putting. And the house drinks, breathes and eats money like a large, greedy monster. But its home. Shrug.

We have a scaffold tower! They aren't that expensive, if you don't mind one that's not super sturdy!!! Ours saves money all the time, DH uses it, the builders use it....everyone uses it......

Sadly it doesn't reach our full guttering on the house (silly tall house) so we have to buy a taller ladder this week.
