I have a wayleave agreement and the promise of £250 if I sign it. :D

Just one problem: their map now shows the pole in the neighbouring farmer's field. :(

Mind you, I'd pay them £250 to site it there, as it would then stand between Mr Dog and his wonderful view.:rotfl:

    Openreach, bloody incompetence on a [STRIKE]stick [/STRIKE]pole. :mad::mad:

Davesnave, you could act dull, and say go ahead with it, so the pole will make lovely viewing for mr dog, as maybe this happened before, and this is why it was on your land..

nights are def getting chillier, and you can feel autumn isn't going to be long ( night time anyway)

I like the autumn/winter, as people post more on here..:D

    hope everyone is ok...

update on pig attackgate it was only yesterday the police got back to me, basically yes there was a criminal act done ( no rude comments please) BUT unless the dog attack is against humans, they normally give them one strike/warning, and the dogs are on file.

The police officer was going to try an see the dog owners, between now and Friday, and basically tell them, on this occasion they are having a warning, and tell them there is a vets bill coming their way ( and in so many words) do the decent thing and pay for it.

The vet bill is a few pennies shy of £250, Now this is my dilema , I don't really want this to potentially drag out, and down the line find either I can not sell the back legs as joints because of scare tissue, etc, I don't think there will be any more vets bills are they are starting to look ok now, one hasn't grown like he should have, and his back end isn't 'plump'

so basically do you think I should add some sort of compensation fee with this bill? to cover any future loss, or am I just being unreasonable?

I'd just claim the £250, CTC, because even the most stupid dog owners would be able to understand their liability for that. If you were to claim more, it might give them the opportunity to argue that you're trying it on and lead to a dispute. ;)

I wish I could act thick and get the pole placed where shown, but Fred next door would notice the activity within 5 minutes, and anyway, it's likely to be Mr Dog's mate who comes to do the work. That's what makes me slightly nervous about signing before it is relocated. If it goes where we have agreed it's going, Mr Dog has a large tree between it and his house, so I can see that causing an interesting problem too! Far from sorted yet....:(

Hey everyone - feeling a bit autumnal here this morning. Blue sky though.

Phoebe - love your garden design, the brick path looks great. I do enjoy seeing photo's posted. Makes it much easier to imagine when you are discussing your lovely house.

Dave - hope you get your pole sorted out!

Itismehonest - what a shock for the car bill, they should have OK'd the work with you first. Our car is due for its service soon, fingers crossed as we are using a garage we haven't before.

Rummer - are you feeling a bit better now?

CTC - well they should definitely pay for the vet bills. As to the consequential loss - two problems I can see, quantifying it and persuading the neighbours of the amount and getting them to pay up. I don't think you are being unreasonable but you will have to balance that out with the impact on long term relations.

Getting very twitchy about the housing market round here. A noticeable £20 -£25k on asking prices from last year. Really hoping our purchase goes through.

And guess what - there really is an honest EA! When we offered on the house we are buying we were told there was another buyer who had offered a bit less, and then upped their offer to a bit more than us. We stuck at our original offer (as I felt it was a fair amount), but did wonder if there was another buyer. DH was speaking to a customer at one of the businesses yesterday (he is a postman) and mentioned the village where we are buying. Oh she says 'not the one with light brick on the main street through the village?' Turns out one of her friends she works with was the other bidder and was very upset when she lost out to us as it was her dream house. Felt a bit guilty then, as it is not our dream house, but then we have lost out on 2 ideal properties from no fault of our own.

Got lots of tomatoes on my plants but they are remaining stubbornly green - anyone harvested any toms yet?
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • OMG CTC the house looks amazing!!!

bet you can't wait to get windows and doors sorted, pennies permitting :(

lots happening on here, phoebe lovely pictures of a lovely house! It seems the sort of place that needs the extra love and we are always in danger of losing money when we want the best for a house.

We've just started making some changes in our house, out of practicality more than anything - after a ridiculous outbreak of fleas in that warm spell I have ripped up all the carpet in the house I can reach - stairs, landing and two main bedrooms.

The downstairs carpet went a while ago along with the fairly new corner settee due to unhousetrained outdoor dog moving in - he cocked his leg on everything and so it all had to go! Thankfully he is now neutered and the marking has stopped and the housetraining is sorted too, bless him.

OH is now home and has been busy removing gripper rods etc. we have some lovely floorboards upstairs and in half of the downstairs and the original stairs look good too.

So we have been and got some floor paint, colour mixed at a local decorator place, very helpful in there. Now all we need to do is pull all the dining room furniture, three big bookcases and stuff out and get the paint on!

In the lounge side of downstairs we have horrid ceramic tiles - they've been put down very well, no cracks etc and very practical being on a farm BUT ever so cold and they just don't look nice.

We would love to rip them out and put boards back down, but I think that will open a big can of worms. Then we were thinking of laying vinyl over for the warmth and practicality but I saw on the internet you can paint over tiles, so I'll try a hidden corner with the floor paint and primer we've got, see how it goes.

Waiting now for some ebay wins - old chesterfield sofa and armchair to go with my auction bargain wing chair, and a 1930's fireplace/stove thingy!!!

    It looks gorgeous CTC. :).

We're eating outside cherry tomatoes. (No green house or poly tunnel here). Tiny but ripe early and super sweet. Hand handfuls enough to make pasta sauces, bruschette, etc. not enough for soups or jugs or Bloody Mary though.

    LIR - Sounds delicious!

CTC - I would bill for the vets fees and leave the rest, as Dave says that reduces the risk of disagreement. The house looks amazing, I can't believe how much you have managed to achieve :j

Ferret Keeper - How exciting to making such changes.

Better Days - This may not be your long term dream home but it is the house that suits you best right now so no need to feel guilt.

Well I am having a rubbish week and I would happily crawl under the duvet with a sack of chocolate and a great book and stay there (well until the chocolate ran out or the book was finished, whichever happened first ;)). Numerous family health issues all coming at once and life is incredibly busy too.

Ah well, I will take some time tonight to relax and face the day afresh tomorrow ;)
