Why would someone put 'no gift' or nothing in their invitations and then get disappointed or upset when they don't? That make no sense.

The main reason for us not asking for gift is that I don't like this imposed expectation. WE are choosing to get married and WE are choosing to invite them. Why should they feel that they HAVE to spend money on us for what we want to do?

The part of the tradition that justified the notion of present doesn't apply to us. We don't need to get settle, we don't need anything. I am grateful that people are coming and it is up to them if they want to spend money or not.

The reason we will ask for cash if they really insist on wanting to contribute is because the only thing we want is a honeymoon the following year and any contribution would help towards it, but I do not expect it at all and we are budgeting it with any help towards it. I would hope that if people can't accept our decision not to have any gift, it is because they want to me make US happy rather than themselves and that is what would make us happiest after getting nothing.

It isn't a wedding without a toaster! :rotfl:

Ours mustn't have been a wedding - not a toaster in sight! :P

We put "no gifts" in our invitations as we had everything we needed; we also added that if people insisted, then Thos. Cook/ Debenhams /J. Lewis vouchers would be welcome.

We received enough holiday vouchers to pay for our honeymoon, enough Debs vouchers to buy a new duvet & bedding and enough JL vouchers to buy photo frames for our wedding photos.

We also received some personalised champagne flutes, a chip & dip set and other glasses. No toaster though!
