I came across the latter for the first time the other day. GOBSMACKED! How they were allowed to march and incite that sort of hatred against the police and british people I will never know.

You will always have extremist in a Free Society, where men have fought and gave up their lives for that freedom.

Of course the media is going to report those types of "stories". They're a business. These newspapers and TV channels are in it for the money and the pofit, and what is more likely to get people talking/watching?

They are never going to run stories showing kids from all ethnic backgrounds learning alongside each other in a classroom, they're never going to print pictures showing neighbourhoods from all races and religions celebrating the olympics, the jubilee etc. purely because it DOESN'T SELL PAPERS.

Yes of course these stories are awful and difficult to read and hear about, but they are not representative. They are divisive and are injected into our society to make us fearful of each other. But the majority of us, no matter where we are from and what we believe, are good and reasonable and it doesn't get reported because maybe we don't stand up enough. Maybe we don't make enough noise.

The only way this would ever get reported is if you had the EDL on one side of the street with their placards, the islamic extremists on the other with their banners, and the rest of us in the middle telling them BOTH that enough is enough.

I would have thought the bus driver should have kicked the man off the bus for verbally abusing other passengers (and I'm sure those that weren't subject to the abuse were still feeling uncomfortable and would have also appreciated him being removed).

You have my sympathies OP. I still feel bad at not standing up to a drunken man who was roaming around the bus, sitting as close as he could to young girls and making lewd comments. The only justification I have is that I wasn't much older myself and I was worried I'd be next!

The bus driver gave him warnings but she didn't kick him off, even when he started making insulting comments about her appearance!

Do a quick google about stories of American, and British, troops in afghanistan and iraq being accused of abuse, rape and murder - this happens all the time, and i dont condone that either. But does that mean all the soldiers are the same??!! No.

This is the same thing, these vile people get the 'air time' they crave, and the population (especially of the EDL mindset) start to believe that this is applicable to anyone who's muslim/middle eastern.

Strangely enough they dont grasp that, no rational person wants to associate with the EDL, and that we know that just like they dont represent my views, neither do this minority represent the views of the vast majority of muslims.

It's a complete joke, and the silent majority needs to find a ____ing voice. Listen, you cannot always be in a safe bubble, protected from the realities of life, you cannot always sit silently and watch the abuse, on all sides.

Find your moral compass and follow it!

Some of the posters on here seem to be suggesting that when this kind of thing happens, strangers are obligated to get involved. That may be a nice comforting view to hold, but in my experience, it doesn't reflect reality. We need to be prepared in our lives for reality, not what we would like reality to be.

I think you will find the teenage boy is far more likely to get seriously hurt than his sister so perhaps it is the boys who should be escorted as they are so vulnerable.

Hiya If i were you i would contact the bus company giving the number of the bus and the time you were on it, they will be able to ask the driver what happened and if he is a regular (the drivers and probably the local police will know him). There may well be CCTV on the bus many do have it now. Anything like that i would report to the driver he shouldnt be on the bus. (Some bus drivers are also Police Officers so well worth reporting).
