Why? Just because I describe Britain how it really is, instead of as the friendly, tolerant, non racist, non prejudiced place you would like it to be?

I think different parts of Britain have different population mixes, and because of those mixes we can't generalise about how Britain really is. My part of Britain is very different from my mum's part of Britain, and my sister's part of Britain, and we all have different views on how Britain is, partly because of where we live.

What if the girl had not been wearing a headscarf, but had been, say, black. What could she have done to "limit the possibilities" of getting abuse from drunken morons? Would she also be partly to blame because she has the temerity of having dark skin?

I do think turning the other cheek now it is happened is applicable and to,move on. Spending your life dwelling on this would be stupid. I'm sure of that now.
However, although our course of action was safe enough, in hindsight we should've perhaps informed the driver, though I am quite sure that he had full account of the situation, with it being a quiet bus.

    :)

EXACTLY!! At 15 years old your friend and YOU will come across worse. Believe me. Not rising to situations is the way to go. But like I said you really need to look at the situation that happened, and please encourage your friend to do the same. The guy is probably still on the bus drunk muttering the same old crap. Whose winning?!

Edited to add: This is the first time I have seen dt on a thread and they are not a troll. You will come across a troll soon enough. Having a difference in opinion is not trolling :)

Well I will take full offence at your post because you are calling me pathetic and bigoted and lacking in guts and honour.

I would actually like to be on a bus with you to watch you confronting a drunken idiot. I can just see it now That is funny.

Can you really not comprehend that confronting someone who is drunk is a very pointless exercise. Do you think he would remember the good Samaritan on the bus? Absolutely not.

Taking the fact the young lady in question was ethnic out of the equation, the drunken idiot could have targeted anyone .. ginger, overweight, a very pretty young girl, a black man. And as long as he didnt threaten them or start getting physical I would have either tried to distract him or kept a close ear on things.

    Ahhh thank you :T

Sorry i disagree, i dont think it's pointless. He may not remember it, but other's on the bus would. They would remember that people are stillg good and decent, and do stand up for their beliefs and morals, and may go onto do so themselves.

    That is worth it
  • Good heaven.

There are some posters on this thread I would not want to meet on a bus in daylight in London, let alone a dark night elsewhere!

Bigotry is bigotry. It makes me ashamed of being British. Vulgar prejudice NOT what we are about.

So instead of condoning it, tackle it. Instead of sniggering and being part of such antics why not stand proud against it? Unless you are a snivelling coward of course.

    Bigotry shames us all.

Do you even know what my colour skin is or where my roots come from?

Not to get off the beaten track look at my avator. An Ancient Egyptian symbol, that would indicate I love Ancient Egypt would it not? What colour skin were the Ancient Egyptians (ok maybe you won't know that but there is evidence out there) - the same colour skin as todays Egyptians maybe.

Your not quite calling me a racist but there are underlying tones there.

I am white, but due to my Indian routes have very dark hair, eyebrows, because I am very dark and because of my routes I have to shave everyday. I am also Welsh with Irish and English () parents/grandparents!

  • Part of me was expecting the "this thread seems made up" post some time ago. Apologies if I incorrectly identified dk as a troll, her difference of opinion in some effects seemed to be extreme, but if that is her opinion then fair enough.
What doesn't ring true? Maybe I could clear it up. Does anyone understand the doorbell comment, I don't quite get it. Was it just drunken burbling, or is it an actual phrase meaning something?

That occurred to me too. And dktreesea isn't a troll (IME). But his posts here are appalling.
