Friend racially abused on the bus :(

Surprised to see this thread, at the top of the page. Part of me thought it may be filled with helpful advice to the brim, which 90 percent of it is, so for that I'm thankful.
Im quite new to forums, but I believe the term is dont feed the troll. Dktreesas' opinions seem to be designed to provoke a response, and I highly doubt the validity of some of the statements.
To clarify, we took the bus at midday, the bus journey is normally around 20 minutes long and we both had parental permission, we'd taken the journey several times before and our parents were quite literally a ring away. The are you old enough issue, I suppose is debatable but I believe most parents would allow it and I would say we are mature enough.
I do think turning the other cheek now it is happened is applicable and to,move on. Spending your life dwelling on this would be stupid. I'm sure of that now.
However, although our course of action was safe enough, in hindsight we should've perhaps informed the driver, though I am quite sure that he had full account of the situation, with it being a quiet bus.
Sorry to hear about what happened to the girlintheattic, I do hope the offender got punished.
We don't live in Bradford, not very near geographically either. Not quite a large ethnic population as Bradford and I'd label our area as quite safe, so hopefully this occasion was just a one off. I'd doubt the drunk man would be quite so open with his bigoted opinions, had there been several mixed race people on the bus.
Thanks for the help everyone. (Those who have been helpful of course)

And your continual flaming of someone for having an opinion other than your own is just as bigoted as the people you are attacking.
Did I at any point say the OP and her friend were to blame? No, though I certainly blame their parents for not making sure they weren't put in that position in the first place.
Your defence is as pathetic as your posts.
Only bigots and racists would approve of your stand point.0 -

Smile and laugh at the abuse? The classic line from the abuser. it was only a bit of fun, don't you have a sense of humour?
This response is pathetic and sadly only to be expected from those with a vested interest in keeping the status quo.
Anyone with guts and honour would have confronted the bigot involved in this. Those who dismiss its effect as "idiotic" are as bigoted and pathetic as the individual concerned.
I'm kind of lost here - Marker didn't say he or the drunken idiot was "only having a laugh" or smiling, or laughing?
I thought Marker was saying to the OP and her friend - comfort yourselves that you are the normal ones, the drunken idiot is the bigot, the fool, the one who should be treated with disdain.0 -
What is so wrong with expecting people to be aware of the kind of society they live in, and to manage their lives appropriately if they don't want to be confronted with that kind of behaviour?
.
I agree, I'm aware of the kind of society I live in. It's one that respects others, one where people can practice their faith without the fear of persecution, one that is accepting of others no matter what colour or creed they are, one where people are free to dress how they wish, one where racism isn't acceptable, one where teenage girls are allowed to use public transport and expect to be safe and finally one where the victim is not to blame but the person committing the criminal act is.0 -
Why? Just because I describe Britain how it really is, instead of as the friendly, tolerant, non racist, non prejudiced place you would like it to be?
As far as I can see the only person who is racist and prejudiced is you.
Everyone else seems intelligent, tolerant and free from bigotry....0 -

Well I will take full offence at your post because you are calling me pathetic and bigoted and lacking in guts and honour.
I would actually like to be on a bus with you to watch you confronting a drunken idiot. I can just see it now That is funny.
Can you really not comprehend that confronting someone who is drunk is a very pointless exercise. Do you think he would remember the good Samaritan on the bus? Absolutely not.
Taking the fact the young lady in question was ethnic out of the equation, the drunken idiot could have targeted anyone .. ginger, overweight, a very pretty young girl, a black man. And as long as he didnt threaten them or start getting physical I would have either tried to distract him or kept a close ear on things.balletshoes wrote: »I'm kind of lost here - Marker didn't say he or the drunken idiot was "only having a laugh" or smiling, or laughing?

because you blamed the girl because she was wearing a headscarf and travelling on a public bus
she has every right to do both without being hassled by a racist
she has every right to do so EVEN if she is going to be hassled by a racist
for her to take off her headscarf and stay in or have an adult with her because there is a chance she could be racially abused, as you advocate, means the EDL/racist mentality is winning and that is horrific....0 -
Op forgive me, but I am not sure it is Dt who is the troll. Something doesn't quite sit right.0
