OS DAILY SUNDAY 27thMAY

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone,

Well its pouring with rain at the moment in Bognor Regis and it looks like its in for the day, I have to be at work at 7am and i dont drive, so im going to get soaked, i only have 4 clients to do but they are about a 10-15 min walk from each other !!! oh well i will have to hit the hot shower when i return and have lashings of hot coffee... ooohh and cake of course !!!!!

sorry i didnt post yesterday.. i was having one of those days where i didnt want to do anything, but it wasnt worth it as i ended up feeling bored and lazy, i didnt even feel like cooking any dinner so we had a take away and even though it was yummy i now feel bad for wasting money on it.. i was just being LAZY !!! so ive kicked myself up the bum this morning, have peeled the pots and veg and we are having rib of beef... now ive never cooked a rib of beef before, normaly just have topside.. so any suggestions for the best way to cook it please ?

my dd made some nice bird food yesterday for the wild birds, we cant hang them up in our garden becouse the cat wiill chase the birds , so she gave them to my neighbour who has a nice bird feeding stand in her garden that my dd can clearly see from her bedroom window.. so i thought i would tell you about it incase some of you and your kids might want a go at doing it....get a couple of opened pine cones and tie a bit of string to the top of each one so that they can hang up, we got 6. crush in a bowl some peanuts, add some raisins, sunflower or any bird seed, some oats and some mild grated cheese, add a little water to bind it together then push and press the mixture into the gaps in the pine cones and then hang up for the birds to feast on.

i hope you are all well
have a great sunday

:hello: Goooood Morning, AMIE and all who follow :D:D:D

Sorry you're having a wet and gloomy start to your day Amie, it's overcast here but so far still dry. Forerib: roast it! It's a lovely cut with just the right balance of fat through it and the bone helps prevent it all falling to pieces with cooking. Aww, don't beat yourself up over your lazy day, we all need those from time to time ((hugs)) Hope you don't get too wet at work. Well done on your dd for making bird feeders, especially using a natural resource such as pine cones :T I've always fed the birds and it's lovely to see how many and of which type come visiting.
Think I must be in the minority because I really am not a lover of hot, hot weather :o so for me, when I go to bed and have a breeze through the window as I snuggle down with a book, it's great!

Sorted out absolutely embarassing amounts of paper items which will hit the recycling skip today. As those who have known me a while on here know, I'm a mag-a-holic and even the free one's from the supermarket seem to have at least one tidbit that I think "oooh, that'll come in useful one day" in. Lots of books, but they will go to the charity shops; they are bulkier and heavier though, so that will have to be a trip for another day.

Thank you to all who gave tips on driving a wheelchair, much appreciated :T :T :T I'll print them off and give a copy to her dh and dd too ;)

Time I grabbed a coffee! Have a good day everyone, ((hugs)) for those in need or want.

A fear of mine, hence being awake all night. I have the plug in things but can anyone suggest something effective. I need some sleep but aim to be up by 12. Have a good day everyone.

Hi AMIE - thanks for the bird food recipe! Don't tell yourself off for having a 'lazy' day yesterday! You obviously work very hard so you're entitled to some 'me' time and, if that includes the odd take-away which gives you a break from the kitchen, then that's the way it should be! I think that's the only danger with being OS - you feel so guilty when you take a break from it, don't you? We all get times when we feel like not doing very much; yesterday we were out for most of the day getting last minute things for DS1's wedding and our trip to France (I found shoes and matching handbag in a Help the Aged shop for the wedding!) so, for dinner, I just did a quick bacon sarnie and some of Queenie's Jam Crumblies with custard and I didn't feel guilty because I know I'll cook 'properly' today! We're having roast pork, roast pots, carrots, brocolli and some old courgettes that I want to use up before we go away and I'm going to chop up all the fresh onions and put them in the freezer - not long ago I would have thrown them away!
For rib of beef, I would just wrap it in foil for the first 40 mins then uncover for the rest of the time; I usually cook beef for 20 minutes per pound because I like it quite pink and, if there's time, I like to roast it slowly at about Gas 4/5 because it keeps it tender. I was only talking to the butcher the other day and she said that their beef is hung for about twenty-one days before it is put out for sale to get most of the blood out - she says the beef they eat themselves is almost black by the time they cook it because they use the meat that has been hung for the longest time. The blacker it is the more tender it is! I didn't know that! Anyway, AMIE, whatever colour yours is, 20 minutes a pound, twenty minutes over and twenty minutes standing time should do it! And, of course, with beef, it doesn't matter if it's slightly undercooked.
Yes, it's raining here as well! And I wanted to put some washing out - it's countdown to the holiday now and DH is on strict instructions now not to wear anything he wants to take away! We were going to go on Thursday but we're taking the late evening ferry on Tuesday now so I have less time to get organised than I thought! I think DH panicked when I told him I was arranging a mini-bus to take all my OS friends with us and wanted to escape early! I said not all men would turn down the chance of sharing a mini-bus with a lot of women!
Well, I had better go now - I need to get the WM and BM on, peel the veggies for dinner, maybe do some ironing - the pile is huge again but I think I'll do some of it today and then there'll be the last minute session on Tuesday. I must go to the bottle bank as well and DH needs a white shirt for the wedding. We thought he already had two but, when we looked in his wardrobe, they weren't there so he must have put them in the last charity shop bag! Peacocks and Sainsbury's will be open today so we'll take a quick trip out to do that and then, of course, I'll have to wash the shirt to get all the creases out! Then I need to get my knitting organised to take away and several books to read and so the list goes on!
Will call in later to see how everyone is! (((Hugs))) to all who need them.

Can you borrow a neighbour's cat? That's about the most effective way to get rid of mice. Failing that, you can buy humane traps from hardware stores, probably B&Q or somewhere like that. If you really hate mice, you might have to get someone to take the trap away once it has caught one but as long as they take it somewhere far away to empty it, it won't come back. You could always ask advice in one of the hardware stores because something else may have been invented recently. Good luck - I'm not that scared of mice but I certainly would not want to know there was one in the kitchen!

Aw, bless your heart! Have a read of "We've got mice - help!" :) Then I hope you can at least have a doze this afternoon to catch up on some lost sleep.

Kathy - I do so enjoy reading your posts and the countdown to France and the wedding :D Hopefully you've made out a pen and paper list with all the things you need to remember and accomplish before you go and stuck it in a prominent position so you can *both* tick off items as you do them (or add them as you remember them) ;):D What a great find for you in the HTA shop :T

    G'dday possums :D

Rain here this morning. DH not feeling well. He's had bad headaches for the last couple of days which has turned migraine. So he's having a restful day in bed. My plans are to watch tv, surf, read & do some planning. :j :D Waiting for a few emails before I can fine tune it.

I also got a freebie face mask which I will slap on after I shower. I'll let you know if there's any startling difference. :p So all in all a very relaxing day ahead. Lazy is another word too. :D I need one after reading Moilere's day.

Dawntodusk A smear of peanut paste on the mouse trap always works for us. Better than cheese.

Hope you all have a nice day & (((((hugs))))) to those poorly. Byeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning all!

overcast here but not raining. got into a little routine of studying early morning and taking the dog out later so will probably rain then! Don't mind that really - walking in the rain is lovely if you're dressed for it - and don't have to go to work, amie. At least I'll be able to come home and have a hot chocolate. hope it stays dry for you.

Queenie - i'm not a fan of hot weather either - but then living in the North I don't get much!

Sorry to hear about your rodents, Dawn. My parents' house had mice that lived in the walls (very old house) and I really couldn't sleep when I was there. Hope you find an answer

I'm getting quite excited reading your posts, Mioliere, with all the prep for your holiday. Reminds me not long until mine!

Have a good day in Portsmouth, Mrs Mix, and hope DH gets better Aussie.

Enjoy your car boot sale Twink!

Got over the downer I was on about getting back into debt and managed to see the upside. The loan will be paid off when I sell the house, and it does mean I can get started on getting the work done. This house really depresses me so getting away from it is now a bit closer.

Graduated yesterday, and I was so looking forward to having a nice family day out. Also found out I was graduating "with merit" - didn't know that! The girls were excited about it and talked all week about what they would wear for it, and on Friday night decided on matching party dresses (they are teenagers -not preschoolers!) I did think it was a bit OTT but had already decided I wouldn't get stressed about what they wore. Anyway when the day came they were really grumpy about having to get up so early, both of them put on scruffy jeans and teeshirts. At least the youngest one combed her hair - don't think the oldest even brushed her teeth! I was so disappointed, and tried so hard not to let it show. The oldest refused to crack a smile all morning, even for the photo. Things got so bad we abandoned ideas for celebration lunch and cancelled the table. however, day improved when we got home, dropped them off, and OH took me out for a nice lunch and champagne cocktail. Both DDs (HDs? Horrible daughters?) were very contrite when we got back and had done a lot of work in the house, but I still had a wee weep later. Just thought they could have made an effort for one day...

Okay - moan over. New day today! I'll get on with some studying, walk the dog, make some stuffed mushrooms for lunch, entertain visiting relatives, then chill out with glass of wine. Still haven't decided whether to work bank holiday or not yet.... boss says up to me, but to text him by tonight because if I don't, he won't.

    Have a good day all!

    Just a QUICKIE.

Off to church soon. It's raining and wet here. not much chance of sun.
Big roast beef for dinner with family.
Bought the daily Express yeasterday for the free bulb and seed offer. Went to Focus to get them and they did not have any. I feel a complaint coming on as they never had any even before the newspaper came out.
