Simple mobile phones with big buttons

Magic 57 I cannot believe how rude some members are. My mother is 86 and not at all stupid but she could not get to grips with an ordinary so called simple nokia mobile. She has good eyesight and good manual dexterity and can use a computer and put programmes into a video. There is a great need for a phone which is staightforward and easy to use for people who are not comfortable or familiar with hi tech.
Many people as they get older have difficulty with small buttons because of arthritis or poor eyesight and often have hearing problems as well. We should all do our best to find solutions to these problems not make rude remarks.
Well done espresso I really love your icon0 -
If they can't manage to press one button, you should give up now!
:rotfl:
Grandmasu Did I misunderstand your post. Oh dear I hope you don't think I am being unsympathetic.
Please read through the thread and you will see that I am quoting expresso who thinks I should give up on my elderly parents.0 -
Sorry got the names muddled up. I really am on your side :kisses3:0

I bought my nan a lovely nokia 6300 and gold plated the item. It's ideal because the keys are very large and we programmed the speed dial settings. Mind you shes still in here 70's but it wasnt that bad in teaching her how to use it(just to write messages and dial a number!)

No problem Granmasu, easily done.
Thanks for putting me onto the Easy5. It looks ideal with the big buttons.
I'll also google nokia 6300 so thanks for that davidjones. What a lovely idea to gold plate it.
My dad was able to manage a mobile easily before his major stroke and my parents had a Playstation so my kids think they are really cool oldies!
There really does seem to be a big gap in the market for older/disabled folk.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

A quick update on my search for a simple phone.
I'm still considering the Easy5 but just found another one called the
Emporia Life which looks good and is more like a conventional phone but with bigger buttons and an emergency button. A bit expensive but looks good.
I imagine there are quite a few of us with elderly relatives so I hope this helps someone else too.:)0 -
There is a Basic Phone now available from www.basicphone.co.uk and it is exactly that. You can only make or receive phone calls. NO text. NO menu. NO camera. NO small buttons. And it is 'unlocked to work with most airtime contracts/SIM cards that you may already have. at this point it is not the cheapest handset, due to comparatively low numbers of units (1,000's not millions). but at least there is now an accessible handset. Have a look!:beer:Doea anyone know of a REALLY easy mobile phone for my elderly parents.
My dad is disabled and a wheelchair user. They are both in their mid 80's.
They really only need a phone for emergencies when they are out at the shops or to call the taxi. They don't go far on their own. I live over 100 miles away and would feel better if they had a mobile.
We tried a couple of phones that we thought would be ok but they were too complicated. I think there is a gap in the market here.
Any ideas anyone please?0 -
Thank you Newanglo for the information.
I think my parents are thinking about the Easy5 as it is simple for a disabled person (my dad) to use it in an emergency. I'm waiting for them to let me know what network is best in their area thenI will order it.
The basic phone looks great though so thank you.0 -
