Who knew kids tv was so evil!! Or parents are being a bit ott! Geez! That's sad about the playgroup nearly closing :( do you have to pay to go? Do you have to take £10 or make £10? Are there high costs? Perhaps if this was communicated to all members they would be shocked into doing something... Events to build a buffer then pay a little bit more each week to sustain the group perhaps? Seems a shame if you've found somewhere nice to take grace to that night have to close :(

Is everyone having a good weekend? Just been out to buy baking supplies :)

When's Birdie back?! Too quiet! Quiet day here, dentist this morning who I'm proud to say I managed not to bite this time, then playgroup. I'm a volunteer at the playgroup, just opening and closing and packing things away. However I found out this evening we're really at risk of closing as we need to make £10 a week and we usually only make about £6. So me and another lady have taken on the task of trying to arrange a couple of special events at playgroup to try to bring in a few more people and raise some money to keep the group open.

I am also a volunteer at our local playgroup. The whole responsibility of it seems to have fallen to me this year? We get enough income, just not enough volunteers to open and close every week (we open twice a week).

Are there any grants you can apply for? We got €600 this year towards rent, insurance and new toys. It certainly helps. In the past, they raised funds by having cake sales. Seemed to work well!

I don't know if we can apply for grants as it's an NCT group. Which means any fundraising we do 70% has to go to head office :( No Tink, really low cost in fact. We only have to take £10 to cover the cost of the hall which is £10 a week, it seems so little especially when there are always more than 10 families there.

Could you finish the group as an NCT group and open up independently. 70% seems like a crazy amount to have to give away. The group I am part of is community run and we are independent. It costs €3 per family per morning (we run twice a week). Sometimes we don't cover the rent or the tea/coffee/toast costs, but other weeks we make over and above.

    Afternoon,

Do people pay to go? I would happily pay a couple of quid to go to a playgroup i like.

Ok weekend here. Not done much but has been a fairly cheap one which i needed. Took Poppy swimming this morning which she enjoyed.

Hello! I'm back! Had a nice time and it was soooo hot but it was really tough to get used to sitting around and doing nothing for so long after our last 2 holidays which were a case of doing as much as possible in a short space of time! We've decided not to do a long haul all-inclusive again, our next big holiday is Florida again in May '15 for my 30th - saving starts now! :D At least our friends got along OK, who knows what'll happen between them now, but we all got along well enough. :)

Hope everyone's well, nice to know you missed my ramblings/bumping the thread! :o
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

  • I have only popped in and out over the last few weeks. My head has been elsewhere. I found a lump in my beast, but thankfully it's all ok. I went to the beast clinic on Friday and they give me a mammogram and a scan. I have done a lot of thinking and reassessing over the last few weeks and cc really do need to go. They are holding me back, both mentally and also from special time with my family. I need to get rid of them to have the money to have a good time. But they won't be gone for a while and I don't want to put life on hold till they are gone. Still need to think this one through. What do you all think?

I am so glad all is okay with you ROTE xxx

Maybe put an extra effort into getting rid of them but don't let it take over your life. Sometimes the simplest, cheapest things are the most enjoyable x

I'm sorry about the scare but I'm glad it's turned out okay. Sometimes these things have a way of waking us up to what's important. I had the same feeling a few months ago and I've gone the head down clear it and then I can just enjoy life guilt free to the full very soon.

So glad you are OK ROTE. I don't know what your level of debt is, if it is a 'small' amount (I know its all relative) then I would get my head down. If its a long haul, I would set up the DDs and just do what extra you can. Even a small amount is better than nothing and may be more sustainable than completely scrimping and saving for a few months only to rebel again (which is what I do :o) Would putting an SOA here help you maybe? Fresh eyes?

Lovely to have you back Birdie and glad you had a good time - your pics looked lush!

Good luck with the playgroup fundraiser Dinah. Do the other parents realise the situation? Just don't take on too much (hope I don't sound bossy/patronising, just know you have a lot on your plate)
