Is that what your parents used to do? Could explain a lot
Yep, and as a child (being looked after at home by Grandparents)
while parents away, I remember putting a note outside on the step '10 extra pints please' which were left.
Granny looked most perplexed and went shopping for lots of custard powder.
I blamed my brother.maybe that's why they went without us.

Just throwing in my bit..
We are due to fly with Monarch i June.. Same rubbish about having to pay to sit together, we are a family of 5, youngest child is 5 and eldest is 10. I will not be paying to guarantee an adult sits with at least one child. I wouldn't pay on public transport ie train or bus. Those saying they wouldn't move, were you ever a child? Could you imagine being moved away from your parents and sat with strangers? It is not irresponsible to not pay. Why should we when the airline will provide us this for free regardless and rightly so.0 -
Wow the human race makes me laugh at times. Why do people, particular on this the Travel heading come on here 25 hours out of the day to post unhelpful responses? Get a life.
Surprised at how many miserable sh7ts there are too. The ones that wouldn't move a seat so a child (under 10 at least) can sit next to their parent ... Either my child would sit next to you, I'd make sure she ate her favorite before take off Beans and cauliflower, she'll be trumping the entire flight OR I would sit next to you, and best of luck with that one. I can be rather irritating when I want to be.
Even if I paid extra to sit together (which I probably would never do out of principle that we should be sitting together anyway) I would be one of the first to move (if I was without my children) so a parent can sit with their child. I would never be spiteful or selfish in that circumstance.
OP,Glad you got it sorted, I would have suggested you rang customer service to query whether sitting apart was not a h&s risk. Must have been a computer glitch99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -

That is all fair and good but bear in mind that some people may be reluctant to move because they have paid good money to sit in a particular seat.0 -

I've paid to have my then 16 year old daughter sitting alongside me and my DH and it wasn't cheap. Fair enough, we can afford to and that's our choice to do that. We just wanted to ensure we were all sitting together on a long haul flight.
If I had paid to sit in a particular seat and was asked to move for another family, I would refuse and I would not be happy for someone to behave badly because they hadn't got what they wanted. I don't feel that's selfish or spiteful of me or anyone to refuse when they've paid for a particular seat. On the contrary, I think it's selfish & spiteful of someone to deliberately behave badly or do something that is going to offend/upset a fellow passenger.0 -

Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. If you are going to be spiteful and selfish, then Karma will get you, and if the Karma comes in the form of someone constantly farting next to you for your journey, then reap what you sew.
People generally are nice polite and giving, you have the odd few that lack common sense, and have little or no care for other people. The odd few being a couple on this thread.
If you really think it is acceptable to allow a 2 or 4 year old to sit away from their a parent, then shame on you.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500
