So did the police investigate these thefts?
Sorry I wasn't more thorough. No idea if they investigated, nor if the customers actually went through with it. I never personally found out.0 -
I lost £10 in the self-service checkout today at my local Morrisons. I rarely ever have cash on me and always pay by card, but today I paid for some ice cream (totaling £5.20) and paid with a £20 note. It is so easy to simply take the coins and walk away, I only realised a couple of hours later what I had done, I doubt I will inquire about it.
I think the golden rule here is, to avoid mistakes like this, always pay by card at these machines.0 -

I would definetly enquire about it!0 -
I bought something from a supermarket the other day for £7.25. I handed a tenner over and received £7.25 change instead of £2.75.I said to the cashier sorry you have made a mistake there, she came back in a VERY loud voice "oh no I haven't your change is correct
I did enjoy saying thank you I will keep the extra £4.500 -

Told the assistant who said that I had made a mistake and must have put a £20 note in. When I pointed out that my receipt was correct and that there were no coins given as change, she put the machine out of order and went to get me a £3 refund. Eventually I got fed up trying to say that the money was not mine and so put it in my pocket and went home.I bought something from a supermarket the other day for £7.25. If I found cash like this, certainly rather than loose change, I think I'd be inclined to take it straight to the police station, isn't that what you are supposed to do?Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I would have thought if a customer discovered they'd left their change behind, if they had their receipt it would have a transaction number which if the store noted the finders transaction number it would identify the money as theirs.0

I work in Tesco and if we get handed money that has been left, it gets kept for a bit then if no one has came back to say they left money, it gets put in the charity box.0

Why not ask what happens to the money at your own supermarket and post the replies here. As I posted earlier, no one knows at my local supermarkets!Abandoned0
