Self Service Check Out Problem

Where I work (no self service machines but happens) if any money is "left" in the store, reasonable efforts are made to trace the person (i.e. CCTV, talking to colleagues, looking at transactions in that area) and the money is put in the safe. It's not the companies so it generally stays there for years (same as debit cards found etc if they cannot be claimed).
Someone gave their child £300 for their birthday in a card, and took them to the store to buy a laptop. They kept hold of the card (in an envelope), and put it down (!) and forgot and walked off and left the store. They came back a few hours later, demanding we search for it - no CCTV of that area, no-one had seen it, not been handed in, nothing the store could really do - the customer demanded the store re-imburse them for "ruining their childs birthday"!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
I'm reviewing my "will never use a self-checkout machine" approach rapidly.0

Slow people at the self checkout is really annoying, they should just use the normal tills and get out of the way.0

Don't get behind me at one when I am feeding my big bag of coppers in it as you will be in for a long wait.0 -
I find self checkout a PAIN about half the time. Asda is the worst!I swear I hear 'waiting for assistance' or 'checking item weight' when I am asleep sometimes!0

If only we were all as perfect as you.....:DPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

I have been known to do that quite a few times, I love scanning things through myself! :rotfl: But, it bugs me if someone else does it....double standards! :rotfl:0 -
A quote from my reply to Yellowbananaboat's post:
".................and if you decide on cashback, remember to pick up the notes!!!!!!!!!"
What a pratt! What an absolute pratt!! Who started this thread? I did. Who tried to warn members to be careful when using the self service checkouts? I did? Who asked what happened to the banknotes others left by mistake? I did. And who went to Morrisons last night, picked up 2 packets of soda crystals, went to the self service checkout, clicked on £50 cashback and then walked out without picking up the £50?:o:o
Discovered my mistake this morning and decided to call into the store to find out their response never thinking for a single moment that I would recover the cash. Explained that I had bought 2 packets of soda crystals, selected £50 cashback but forgot to pick up the cash. The lady smiled, opened a ledger and said "Yes it's here" then read out, "6.28pm £50 left in SSC2. Sign here please" then she opened a cupboard and retrieved the cash from an envelope.
I now know what happens to money left in the SSCs at my local Morrisons. If it is handed in then its logged and locked away waiting for someone to collect. And what happens to the cash if it's not collected? I have no idea.Abandoned0 -
I bought something from a supermarket the other day for £7.25. I handed a tenner over and received £7.25 change instead of £2.75.I said to the cashier sorry you have made a mistake there, she came back in a VERY loud voice "oh no I haven't your change is correct
I did enjoy saying thank you I will keep the extra £4.50
They obviously got the digits ar*e about face!! Their fault, not yours. :-)0
