I have been on both sides of the fence on this situation

I have seen £10, £20 left in the machines and I always give them to the staff in the store. This is because I stupidly did the same thing once too. I requested £20 cashback, walked out, got to work (luckily is only 200m away) and realised I had left the note in the machine. Went back and asked the lady working in the SSC area, she said check with customer services and lo and behold when I asked they said £20 here, was handed in 15 mins ago. Showed them my receipt and I got my £20 back.

So I always make sure I hand in the money to the staff on the desk as it's the moral thing to do when it is easily stored and collected by the person who forgot it.

However if a £20 is floating around on the pavement outside then I will have no such issue picking it up as that is anyones loss and no way to prove it.

A quote from my reply to Yellowbananaboat's post:

".................and if you decide on cashback, remember to pick up the notes!!!!!!!!!"

What a pratt! What an absolute pratt!! Who started this thread? I did. Who tried to warn members to be careful when using the self service checkouts? I did? Who asked what happened to the banknotes others left by mistake? I did. And who went to Morrisons last night, picked up 2 packets of soda crystals, went to the self service checkout, clicked on £50 cashback and then walked out without picking up the £50? :o:o:o

Discovered my mistake this morning and decided to call into the store to find out their response never thinking for a single moment that I would recover the cash. Explained that I had bought 2 packets of soda crystals, selected £50 cashback but forgot to pick up the cash. The lady smiled, opened a ledger and said "Yes it's here" then read out, "6.28pm £50 left in SSC2. Sign here please" then she opened a cupboard and retrieved the cash from an envelope.

I now know what happens to money left in the SSCs at my local Morrisons. If it is handed in then its logged and locked away waiting for someone to collect. And what happens to the cash if it's not collected? I have no idea.

Oh dear! You will never make that mistake ever again! :T:T:T
A lesson learnt for us all lol.
Great you got your money though, be thankful for the gracious staff. :D
