  • The best time to weed is during the rain; or just after. The rain softens the soil and the weeds just pull out nicely. So get your waterproofs out and get out there.

I get up every morning at 6.00 and the OH comes down to a breakfast. This morning by 10.00 I had cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed the house, and there is a load of washing in the machine.
Last weekend she spent half a day "experimenting" making cookies, and the kitchen which I had cleaned on the Friday was left looking like a bombsite:(
We went out on Saturday, and had just driven off in the car, when she asked me if I had locked the back door, and I said "I think so". She then said "What do you mean, you think so, you will have to go back and check it!". So we went back, and after an argument, I managed to get her to check it (I had locked it as I thought). I then gave her a bit of a lecture about taking responsibility for certain things and not relying on others all the time, which then meant the next few hours were spent in a bad mood:(

I'm confused by this. You locked the door but she should have taken responsibility for it?

I've been in the past the one home more so did all of the housework while the other person worked full time.

I would not reasonably expect the cleaning I did to be nit-picked (unless I did something obviously wrong) and I would expect the other person to tidy after themselves generally, mop up a spill they caused or put their crisp packets in the bin and so on.

I'm guessing the door locking thing was the final straw for AndyGB. I certainly would have been !!!!ed off if my partner had made a mess in the kitchen I'd just tidied up and left it (I presume for AndyGB to clean again). Just because AndyGB is the *main* house-person doesn't mean his wife should never have to lift a finger. (Including, in my opinion getting her own breakfast - seriously how hard is it to pour a bowl of cereal).

Ooh, nasty. Reminding your OH, the person you love most in the world, of their supposed debt of gratitude for the 'sacrifices' you make is really, really bad behaviour. She should want to do what she does.. does she? Sounds like she's resentful. How did you come about her being at work and your being at home? Was this forced on you through circumstances, e.g. you lost your job or was it something you decided would work best for you as a couple/family?

I have health issues which go back fifteen years approximately, but were fully diagnosed ten years ago, by which time they had become more complicated with additional, related problems.
However, around ten years ago when they were diagnosed, I had a fairly good job up in London, which I was good at and was paid well accordingly. Unfortunately at this time, we had a change of management, and I had to go into hospital on odd days to be monitored, and the new management did not like this, so on return from my annual holiday, I was sorting through the post, and found that they had made me "redundant" without discussing it with me. I was absolutely livid, because I knew what the new management thought about my hospital visits, but I could not do anything about it.
Since then I have been doing a lot of contract/temporary work, but over the last couple of years this seems to have dried up completely.
One of the associated health problems has been diagnosed as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (along with a bit of arthritis in my left hand) in both hands, which means my computer inputting speed has gone down to a snail's pace - and also makes DIY and gardening a real pain - literally:(
I do daily job searches, but hear back from vitually none of the applications.
I would love to be working, because it would mean that we could enjoy the things we used to - holidays, better car, eating out occasionally.

Even though I do most of the housework (and I work a fair few hours too - but I am quite picky on how I like things lol) I would expect people to clean up after themselves!

I get her a cooked breakfast (egg on toast most days) every morning, with a nice pot of fresh leaf tea.
Yeas, the mess was pretty amazing - flour and water on two large surfaces and the floor - lovely!
I even had to turn the oven on for her and then get it to the right temperature - I use an oven thermometer.

Yes because she questioned me about it, and was not satisfied when I said that I thought I had locked it.
