You know, I have been wondering about this, or more specifically, only people of her choosing?
To be honest, I think that she is critical of everyone, not just me.
She needs a hobby or pastime to keep her occupied in the evenings or weekends. I have tried suggesting that she take one of my cameras with her when we go out, but she isn't interested.
We go to the gym and sometimes play badminton, but sports are a bit of a problem because she isn't coordinated and I used to play at a decent level.

I also think you seriously need to spend less time doing house related chores and as other people have said, spend some of the time doing things for you, meeting new people, getting a social life back.

Andygb - I am another one who has just joined your fan club!

I would love a husband like you! Your OH sounds like a right little selfish so and so!

Housework isn't the be all and end all. You need to spend time doing other things and get your life back.

And of course you should try and talk to your OH and try and get to the route of the problem.

One of the scariest things which has happened in my life.:D

Look, I really appreciate the comments and advice, but there are some really good ideas which folks have suggested, particularly the one about getting out and meeting people.
I would love to be working again, but sending off applications every day does not seem to be getting me anywhere, and all this must be a strain on my OH, because we are both in our mid fifties, and that is probably the worst time to be looking for a job. So I reckon the networking thing could help.

Can I join Andy's fan club too? I'm happy with my husband, but Andy's welcome to come round and clean my oven :D

Volunteering would help with your CV too. In my town there's a BHF shop that sells furniture and electrical items, and it's a big shop so they have lots of volunteers, and they are mostly male - it's not like the usual charity shop that's staffed by 2 kindly grandmothers.

I feel a bit lost now that my volunteering has stopped (the surestart centre has got rid of all the services I volunteered for), so until I find a job I'm going to see if they want me to volunteer at the primary school my son goes to. I wonder if a primary might want you to help with gardening club?
