This man had a family who will miss him forever and who have to come to terms with the awful nature of his death.
Yes, we are all shocked and appalled but let's not think that we can ever be as emotionally involved / damaged as those who knew the victim and now have to suffer the personal loss of a loved one.
What we need to do for them is to show respect and restraint and not treat this as an opportunity to be armchair critics / gossips / or indulgers of over-emotional sound bites.
I could not agree more.0 -
The name of the young soldier has been made public, hence my knowledge of his identity, his family were informed yesterday afternoon, and to be honest I felt for them having to see the pictures of the incident all over the internet and the tv, it would have been prudent for the news coverage to have blurred out his body lying in the road. Absolutely awful
Next time you feel the need to be the first to say 'oh look at me i know the name of the dead bloke' at least try and get your facts straight. The real name wasnt made public until this afternoon and if there is such a soldier as Joshua Caudwell then you owe an apology to anyone who knew him that may have read your post, just imagine if you saw the name of your son on some forum being talked about in the past tense.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
It's their job.
Isn't it a parent's job to protect their children?
Total disgust at piglet25 for naming someone unconnected with this.
Slightly going around in circles here - I don't disagree that the parent who was with the child shouldn't have allowed it, of course they shouldn't, but I also think that news networks should also not be allowed to conduct such interviews, whether the parent is willing or not. A code of conduct so to speak.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
The soldier has been named as xxxx, well xx, all I can say is rest in peace because you were 1000 times the man any of those two could ever dream to be
I see you sneaked back and changed the name in your post.
Shame on you for naming names (with incorrect information) so early on and when you knew the family wanted to keep things quiet.
And then... double shame on you for not having the guts to acknowledge that you got it wrong!:hello:0 -
Please could my post where i quoted the person who gave the wrong name be deleted please. I don't know how to do it.
Thank you0 -

Thank you
Please leave the post where you quoted it.
The person who gave out the wrong name at 12.10am yesterday has failed to apologise for doing so.
Not only that, they have edited their post to put in the correct name - once it was actually "in the public domain" - after 6.00pm today.
Others have pointed out a number of reasons why piglet was so very wrong to make that post in the first place.
The fact that you have quoted it means that he/she can't hide behind the late editing of the post - and the lie that it was edited because "incorrect name given in the media"0 -

I disagree.
Why should the name of the wrong person be on here. If it were someone in my family I would not want it to be there.0 -

True - that's a fair point.
It's probably best if piglet25's misinformation is completely deleted.
The thread does show that piglet 25 posted a message, allegedly naming the victim, at 12.10am on 23/5/13 - many hours before the dead man's name had been officially confirmed.
It also shows that the name given by piglet25 was wrong.
And we can all see that piglet25 edited the post at 6.20pm on 23/5/13, to change the name of the dead man to the name which had - by then - been publicly confirmed. A different name form the one given by piglet25.
The 'reason' given by piglet25 for editing the post is at odds with the facts.
I hope that lukie does edit or delete his post.0 -

why the hell should they tone it down, they mounted the pavement & ran into him, then got out of the car & tried to cut his head off,
I can't believe that no one came to his aid & just stood around doing nothing, if i had been there they would have got a crow bar round their heads,
as for publicity they should put them in a yard & let the poor mans family get at them
for crying out loud what on earth is happening to this country, the police should have shot them & left them there dying in their own blood like they did to that poor manI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
